Hey Gary, That's looking good. I've always thought Raf Sky type S was a shade of green. It certainly appears more green than blue to me. I think the stripe maybe a little on the heavy side but the colour isn't that far off IMO. Of course, colours are very different under natural light and fluorescent... Below are my Hannants acyrlics for Ocean Grey and Sky Here a pic of the underside of a Spitfire I made quite long time ago. It also looks green too. Regards Steve

Thank you Steve, when I hold up the fuselage to your photo of the Hannants colour chips, you're right, The Ocean Grey is pretty close, but the Sky does look greener, but not as bad as it first appears. I'm going to assume that you painted the bottom of the Spitfire with the Hannant's Sky. We'll see what it looks like when I get it out into the sunshine. Maybe that will make a difference too.
Gary

Just for reference...these are the colours I used on this model.
The underside is not supposed to be that beigey cream 'sky' colour ...is that what Steve is thinking? Just the fuselage stripe is done in that colour. I understood you Gary...saying the stripe had gone green. My guess is the printing has over saturated everything with blue. Do you know the type/weight/finish of the cardstock? I wonder how much that is affecting it too.

No Dave. I was just referring to the stripe and that RAF sky (type S) is a greeny colour. Gary was also saying his previous Spitfire model underside looked green... (Yes Gary - My Spitfire was painted with the very same Hannants.) Sky type S was only used up until '41. I can see where the confusion is here. Looks like you have used "sky blue" correctly Dave for the fuselage stripe which is a different colour to RAF Sky (type s) and the saturation of printing has made it look more like the latter, rather than the former!

Looking at the fuselage against Dave's colours, Dave's absolutely correct, it's blue saturation on the Ocean Grey and the Grey Bottom. The green is a "brighter" colour too.

Okay, enough bitching from me...lets get this model finished.
As Gary already said to me, he can always print and build another one. Consider this a practice.

Not bitching, Dave. Just pointing out the facts.
I just need to find a printer that can print the correct colours... Gary

I wouldn't worry too much about it Gary. If the designer has got the colours right in the first instance (as is the case here), unless your using your own printer it's pretty much pot luck and beyond our control as to how different printers reproduce them. To me so long as they print out close to the original I'm happy.

Thanks Garry, I'm still going to build this one. You're right, not my fault the the print shop didn't get the colours correct. I guess that's what you get for printing a model, and not looking at it for a year...

Cockpit
Here's a couple of photos of the cockpit prior to it's final assembly. As per Dave's recommendation, leaving the instrument panel until later will allow you to position it high enough, to fit tightly up against the upper cowling. Then it will be off to finish the fuselage.
Thanks, Gary
