Cool Tzukit- Israeli Fouga- Yoav model

After building many Soviet jets lately, I decided to continue my addition to the Israeli air force jets designed by our friend Yoav. All his new models are in 1:30 scale.

This time I will build the Israeli version of the French Fouga Magister jet trainer from the 1950's called the Tzukit in the IAF service.

You may recall his builds :
I started a new project

and his building report:
Fouga magister - building report

you can download all the files for free here:
Index of /Yoav/Fouga Magister

( All of Yoav's models and Yaron's repaints are on the DGA web site ).

This is not my first build of this plane. I even recall as a youngster in kindergarten carving a balsa wood model of the Fouga Magister.

Also, I built many plastic models of this plane in various scales.

My previous version was a 1:50 scale repaint also available on the DGA site:
Index of /Yoav 1-50/Fauga Magister

here is my building log:
IAF Fouga / Tzukit 1/50 scale

and lastly, Josef built Yoav's model:
Fouga Magister, YOAV HOZMI, 1:33

So there is no excuse not to build this attractive little aircraft.

Smile The parts

As you download the files from the DGA web site, please notice that each page is separate and is in .jpg format. That means that if you are not careful and decide to print it from your windows viewer, it will fit it to the page you are printing and the scale will not be preserved. So you must have a graphic program that will print the files to 1:1 scale or you can also reduce ( or enlarge ) each file. But do so consistently for each page.

Here is a view of the pages.

instructions are all visual. Here is a sample:

Should be a fun project.

More details later.

Smile Modification for landing gear addition

Thanks guys, this will be a relatively easy , but a fun build.

My challenge will be adding the landing gear bays.

The modification will be mainly to the wing gear bays cut outs and wing supports since the current kit has no provision for the gear ( it is designed for a flying display on a stand ) and the main wing spars interfere with the gear bay cut outs.

Other than that, it will be similar build ( but with my own preference for order of assembly ).

Exclamation Fuselage

Here are the parts cut out and glue tabs attached.
Tzukit- Israeli Fouga- Yoav model-img_0045.jpg

Nothing complicated and a nice touch is that the seams for the fuselage section will be hidden mostly ( in the sides where the engine nacelles are ) and nose panels.

parts are rounded and formed

Glue the aft section ( minus the very end where the butterfly tail spars go ).
Tzukit- Israeli Fouga- Yoav model-img_0048.jpgTzukit- Israeli Fouga- Yoav model-img_0049.jpg

now start gluing the forward section ( note : I will add the clear nose tip lens later on and butt join them instead of slipping it from behind as Yoav did; just a preference on my part ).

Exclamation continued

Next, glue the sections going aft
Tzukit- Israeli Fouga- Yoav model-img_0062.jpg

I decided to add the cockpit tubs after joining the fuselage sections having the cut outs. This is different than Yoav's method in which he glued the tubs into each section and then joining the fuselage. I find this too difficult for me to get my fingers inside to glue. Your choice ).

now insert the cockpit tubs from the rear going forward.

add the aft tub.

hi Isaac...

There is a reason for the cockpit assembly that I listed in the instructions.

In the model's building instructions, it is first necessary to insert the cockpit into the part and only then to connect the parts, for the reason that the cockpit is a little bit wider than the top opening of the cockpit.

with your method, when you inserted the cockpit from above, and because the cockpit is wider than the opening into which it fits, you have created some tears/ruptures and deformation at the top of the cockpit opening....I hope the canopy will cover that.

best regards

YOAV
