Raf p-47d fl844

Photo 01: My next build is going to be AirDave's P-47 in RAF colours. I'm going to build it as a gear up version. I had the kit printed at Staples, so let's see how it goes. I'll use the building tips and techniques that Dave provided in his P-47 build thread: Lets build a P-47! (Photo Walkthrough)

Photo 02: I've cut out the formers. Again, I used 1/16 balsa wood to save my fingers from too much pain.

Photo 03: The main fuselage parts and joiner strips are cut out. I've adjusted the wing and horizontal spar cut outs to fit the 1/16 balsa wood spars and formers. Edge colouring is done and the edges are burnished.

Thanks,
Gary

Thank you Don, I hope that I can do this kit justice.

We will be watching Gary, those formers look very neat. I will have to try the raft wood, the cardboard is not so easy to cut.

Gary

Glad you are on a building kick. Enjoy the process.

Also, nice to see a P-47 in other than USA scheme.

Isaac

Thank you Sergio. I switched to balsa wood because it is easy to cut. It is thicker, so you need to account for additional thickness.

Thanks Isaac. I have a couple of days off, and between the tasks on the "Honey Do" list, I figured that I would have a go at the P-47.

I do like the razorback P-47's, they look bigger. The RAF paint sheme is very nice too.

Fuselage

The colours that came out on the Staples printed version are not correct. However, I still going to continue with the build. I'm guessing that RAF colours don't like me, because I had the same issue with my Spitfire. Here's a photo of the fuselage parts formed. I've also cut out the inter-coolers and added the inserts.

Thanks,
Gary

The colors look a little weird, on the other hand you will have something unique. Sorry for my ignorance, Gary, which is Staples?

Thanks Sergio. Staples is an American office supply chain. They also do printing.

I'm hoping that they didn't select the "shrink to fit" option when they printed the kit. I did specifically tell them DO NOT.

Let's see what happens when I try to do the assembly.
