1/144 Yokosuka D4Y3

In order to help Bruno with test builds, I took on the D4Y3. This is the radial engine version of the D4Y aircraft.

I added a tubular bomb site and pitot tube. I did not use the kit spinner, opting instead to turn one from a candy stick.

I also colored the wheel wells and interior of the gear doors to a more Japanese interior color.

I did not do the build justice, as I rushed it alot, and it shows in some places.
My primary objective was checking if the camouflage lined up.

I think it looks great, Ray.

It is a Yokosuka D4Y3 Suisei Model 33 of the 601st Naval Air Group (601 Kaigun Kōkūtai) in the post-Battle of the Philippine Sea markings. The 601st Ku was assigned to the 1st Carrier Division (1 Kōkū Sentai), which, after the Battle of the Philippine Sea consisted of Amagi and Unryu. I don't think Amagi ever took aircraft on board, so I speculate that your model is on the deck of Unryu.

Here is an image of the actual aircraft that you modeled.

Keep 'em flying!

Don

Fantastic work for its scale.
Sometimes these models have some difficult moments in 1/100 so I don't even want to think how difficult they must be in 1/144! Your D4Y3 looks really small.

Even a Texman “rush job” is still an awesome, display-worthy build!

Thank you for test building.
well done (even if it was rushed).

as for the wheel well color, always like to know which RGB color is the best. Not sure if my sources are always right.
