In spite of your disclaimers, that looks like mighty fine craftsmanship to me, Isaac.

The Windows will get a treatment!
I got inputs on printing them on thin paper and glue them on the areas having seams. Isaac

Nice build Isaac. When I rediscovered paper modeling in the early nineties the enthusiasm came back after building a few Wilhelmshafener models. For their time they were actually very good and precise.
Will follow this one with great interest. Regards, Erik |

Yes, Wilhelmshavener were my first experience into paper modeling in the 1960's and then Schreiber. At the time, I did not know what else was out there. I purchased any paper model they sold at the small store nearby. Later in my teens and early 20's, I still continued to build the WHV models ( I still have the B-58 and the Grumman Albatross ). However, it reached the end of my interest and I stopped building them. For some reason, they were only interested in models that were average ( although I found their SAAB Viggen to be excellent ). Again, this build is only an experiment and a learning build for me as I plan to build it again in a repainted version. So I am keeping tabs on areas of concerns and goof ups. I did build this Nord as a kid, but that was such a long time ago. Thank Isaac

Forward section continued
If you plan to add a landing gear to this model, please note that there is no internal support for the struts other than the paper skin.
I decided to insert a piece of wood under the location of the nose struts. notch the inner frames insert the wood and cut to length. Then glue in place. You can then drill a small hole for the nose gear strut. Isaac

Forward section done
Here are the sections put together
Observation: It is not the easiest of fitting model since the sections are large and sloping relative to each other. I know I will have problems fitting to the center section. Isaac

Center section
The center fuselage section consists of a large constant cross section part.
Here it is with the frames inserted, but not yet glued. Notice that the frames have a center cut out to insert fingers for the proper positioning. I don't know why WHV did not have it with their kit? note again: what appears to be a wrinkle on the bottom is the scanned original which had water damage. The new part is printed on flat paper with the scanned damage. In a way I even like it like that. Isaac

Aft section
The aft section is like the forward one.
The fit is difficult, I may need to double the paper thickness here, or add inner skin support, but at least I can see what to do next time. Observation: The shape of the aft section is wrong. It is too conical. The actual Nord had a more rounded rear end. There is a need of at least two more sections to get the shape right. So this model can't be up scaled to 1/33 or 1/30 as is without this glaring discrepancy!

All three sections
Here are the forward, center and aft fuselage sections before assembly.
Observation: These are very large cross sections. I do not see a good way to fit them all together smoothly. I will notch the glue tabs and bend inward slightly as part of the glue process. Isaac

Joining the fuselage
We are ready to join the three major sections.
But first, I added two screws to the forward section to act as nose ballast. I don't recall if it is needed at all, but even if you forget, you can always insert weights thru the upper navigation dome. get ready to join joined Note: parts joining has problems. here is the final joined fuselage as is. Observation: I had a very difficult time joining these large sections. The results show wrinkles, shrinking possible causes: 1- Large parts where small amount of errors accumulate 2-the original parts were scanned as is ( water damages with wrinkles ). Therefore it is possible that their sizes was altered enough to cause a mismatch. Lesson learned: - parts should be modified after scanning damaged areas - double the width of the joining strips - use less glue as well as slow drying glue - use a different joining technique for the last large section. Cut out some ports to insert a rounded tip dowel to push from the inside. - repair any areas by cutting them out and glue an overlaid section printed on a thin paper Isaac
