John, what you say about segments 8a and 7a is true. I had problems with them too but after a few tries and adjustments they finally fitted correctly. If you used joiner stripes and now you have one in 7a segment, not in 8a, that's good. You can try to bend slightly(using your fingers) upwards the edge of 8a.
Hope it will help you a little.

Create your own build thread and post some pictures. We would be able help you more and see how does your model look right now.

I think you can also share your balsa model here, but maybe in "Other Things We Do & Make" section?
