Smile Burnelli UB-14 and CBY 3 - Murph's Models in 1/100

At the time two strange prototypes the Burnelli UB-14 and beta test of the Burnelli CBY-3, the first is The Burnelli UB-14, also known as the Cunliffe-Owen Clyde Clipper, was a 1930s American prototype lifting-fuselage airliner designed and built by Vincent Burnelli. The second is a development of early UB-14, the Burnelli CBY-3 Loadmaster is an unconventional transport aircraft that was designed by American engineer Vincent Burnelli and built in Canada in 1944 by Canadian Car and Foundry.

Both are designed by Vicent Burnelli, assuming that the fuselage could be transformed into airfoil increasing sustainability and carrying capacity. The UB-14 prototype could never prove these features proposed in the design. Although it had a fascinating existence. The CBY-3 prototype built in Canada in 1944 proved more effective. However Burnelly and his Canadian Car & Foundry associates never got a production contract. of CBY-3. The prototype flew during the 1950s as a commercial airplane passing through several operators, until it was delivered in 1964 to the New England Air Museum in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, where it was displayed outside. As of January 2015, the aircraft had been moved into the museum's restoration hangar and was being worked by a team of volunteers.

Murph's Models offer the Burnelli UB-14 as a Freebie in https://murphs-models.webs.com/burnelli-ub-14

The CBY-3 is a beta test. The UB-14 I start the build in the end of 2014 and since this time is holded, Aaron send me for test the development the CBY-3, so is a good chance to complete previous model and made the interesting family.

Cby-3

Looking forward to watching your CBY-3 progress. I had a chance to visit her when she was still outside at the New England Air Museum. They have made wonderful progress on her restoration:

It is a shame the CBY-3 did not get the commercial success deserved. I am hoping to do some "should have been" schemes.

I look forward to seeing a CBY-3 in Spartan Air Service livery.

Or a yellow RCAF target tug.

I did build UB-14 a while back.It was enjoyable model with a bit tricky tail booms but I always had trouble making twin boom design symmetrical and in proper angle.

Spartan . That reminds me - got to get back to that Canso. Not sure about a target tug, but certainly a C-119 buddy .

I saw an example of this plane at the New England air museum in Windsor Locks Connecticut USA.

Very simple looking airfoil shaped fuselage

Good ideas are not enough. You need financial support to make it.

Yep, that is the one and only example of the CBY-3. It had great reviews and had flown successfully for many years after its introduction. The Museum is doing a great job restoring this unique, one-of-a-kind machine. I am looking forward to seeing the beta build and having it available.
