The Avenger also was there
Some times the Avenger is not recognized as a participant in Operation Torch, but it was there! I look for the simplest model I could find. And it was in front of my nose. It is from the old JSC USS Card. I just did a simple recolor, although I was toying with the idea of doing a reduce from 1/200 or 1/100. I am glad I didn't. My recognition to those who do the full wings of aircraft carriers!
I always consider the Avenger as a big plane, but compared to the Fulmar and Albacore is not that (or all of them are big). Some of the potential next planes include redoing the Wildcat since I am not that convinced with the colors of the Trotskiy in this scale (nothing wrong with the model) or the unfortunate Grasshopper. Let's see, it also could be a Bleinheim, a Lysander, or a Potez. |

L-4 Operation Torch
One of the lesser known aircraft that participated in Operation Torch were a group of L-4 grasshoppers. I read three were launched from an aircraft carrier and none arrived safely to their destination due to terrible friendly fire. Apparently no one communicated to the gunners of the rest of the armada that they were coming, and included the special markings for the operation. Also I am included one that I used as cargo in my APD, high speed transport.
I hope you like them. ps: I usual, I don't notice some details until I see the enlarged pictures |

That's a cute little L-4, with or without the wings intalled.

F4F from JSC, Operation Torch
Thank you Carlos and Sergio for stopping by.
As I mentioned earlier I wanted to replace the Trotskiy Wildcat more for consistency than any other reason. So I replaced it with a simple recolor of the JCS from the USS Card, which was very similar to the escort carriers that participated in Operation Torch. I am including the Avenger and the Grasshopper on top of the unbuild Card just as a reference. The Dauntless and the Seagull are the other navy types to be modeled but I don't know well. Next would be a Vichy or a RAF plane, with a low probability of an Italian or a DAK. I hope you like them. ps As I said, people doing full detailed air wings for aircraft carriers have all my respect |

Quote:
This is an account of the first launch into combat of the L-4: "On 9 November, Ranger launched its 3 Army L-4 Piper Cubs, which would be used as observation platforms. The 3 little single-engine planes were led by Captain Ford E. Allcorn, who took off into a 35-knot headwind, 60 miles from shore, running into anti-aircraft artillery from US ships, which were obviously unaware of the identity of the 3 aircraft. French shore batteries also fired at the Pipers as they went over the beach. Capt Allcorn was wounded and his aircraft set on fire. He was barely able to sideslip his stricken plane to the ground, then drag himself from it before it exploded. Capt Allcorn thus had the unique, and somewhat dubious, distinctions of flying the first Cub from an aircraft carrier, becoming the first Army aviator to be wounded in the campaign, and the first to be shot down in the campaign." WIP Lysander
This is a WIP on the Lysander. The wings are a challenge, so I glued them digitally and added the side of the cockpit window to the side and little rod (more than a little wire). Also, I glue digitally the landing gear.
ps: And thank you Sergio. |
