Gary Pilsworth’s Envoy
Thank you Sergio for stopping by.
Continuing with the topic of the East Africa Campaign I Did Gary Pilsworth’s Envoy. I got curios about it and discovered that it has a typo. It should be 60 Squadron of the SAAF and not RAAF. I omitted the smaller pieces and simplified the engine cowling. I did enjoyed building this model. You may find the initial Gary’s post here: Next will be.... The Airspeed AS-6J Envoy was an enlarged twin- engine version of the Airspeed Courier. Three joined directly the SAAF and four were delivered to the South African Airways. The plane represented by this model corresponds to the Envoy 252 (ex ZS-ALE). All these planes were convertible and could be transports, bombers or, as you will see most important, reconnaissance aircraft. At the beginning of the hostilities the type formed the 1st Survey (Flight) of 60 Photographic Squadron of the SAAF were it served for the first months of the campaign. The type provided much needed military intelligence on these literally and not figuratively uncharted territory. The type helped produce maps on scales of 1:50 000 and 1:25 000 of selected areas by the 1st Field Survey Company. The Envoys were later replaced by Ansons, also modeled by Gary Pilsworth. At the end of the war, the 60 Squadron accidentally made a sordid discovery while flying Mosquitos, Auschwitz! I hope you like this tiny model, and very important: Thank you Gary, looking forward for your next model! Last edited by wireandpaper; 02-19-2021 at 11:07 PM. |

WIP LeO-451
Thank you Sergio for dropping by, very encouraging.
It is time to go back to the original topic of the thread. Here is a WIP of Bruno's LeO 451 which has been waiting since he posted it in October 2019. The type served in North Africa and Levant according to Sutherland and Canwell. |

The Leo 45 series were good-looking airplanes. Your Vichy Aéronavale 451 looks great.

LeO-451 almost done
Thank you Carlos and Done:
Just be careful when you attach the twin rudders to the tail and the tail to the fuselage. This is a very nice plane, rather large for a twin engine aircraft. It is almost done, only needing the landing gear and maybe a 20mm rear gun. |

That is great work, and at such a small scale! I especially like the mini-diorama in several of your pictures.

Thank you Mike and George.
About the mini-dioramas, I have been using the building inspired by Old Sacramento that I "helped" my daughter to do for her diorama of the Gold Rush. Gold Rush school project be aware may contain pl....c As for the vehicles I use are from different sources from the Czech Republic: PR Models, R and P Models and Poland: JSC. Mikromodels - PRmodels 1:250 military - R & P Models JSC As for figures you may find them in the Junior General. Junior General | Educational resources for teaching history All of them rescaled to 1/400. I think I will update the mini-dioramas with a control tower but I have not been able to find any picture of one during North Africa or Levant, only from England or the US. By the way PR Models have a diorama of a RAF airfield in 1/250. I hope this help. ps: And by the way I got inspired by Jim G in taking pictures of the planes in flight suspended by tweezers!
