Question

This project is directly competing for my time with other things like RC planes, writing, part time work, full scale flying, volunteering at the museums, travel....... And those are things for fun.

I need more time Scottie

Oh well, soon I will pick it up again.

Red face Fairing that look like crap

After a couple of weeks break ( I was flying my RC planes intensively ), I got back to this build.

Next are the lower gun blisters/fairings.

Here are the parts. Notice the multiple cuts needed.
Hawker Hunter F.5 WAK 1/33-img_0713.jpg

formed ( really bad job )
Hawker Hunter F.5 WAK 1/33-img_0715.jpgHawker Hunter F.5 WAK 1/33-img_0716.jpg

glue in this lower fuselage location
Hawker Hunter F.5 WAK 1/33-img_0717.jpg

and on.
Hawker Hunter F.5 WAK 1/33-img_0718.jpg

I think a better method is to coat it over, sand smooth and repaint.

Rear warning fairing.

another one of my screw ups. The dreaded petal design.
Hawker Hunter F.5 WAK 1/33-img_0722.jpg

and glued on.

My take is that this build is dragging on too long and I have way to many other interests competing for my time......

Exclamation Air brake

The Hunter has a strange air brake attached to the lower fuselage. As an engineer, I think this was an after thought and not part of the original design as it is completely external to the lower fuselage. Looks like they just slapped it on after the design of the slick fuselage.

I was debating on deployed or stowed configuration. At the end, I decided to attach it stowed. Primarily because it is below and looks kind of silly deployed on the ground since it is so close to the ground.

here it is

Isaac,

Just playing catch up on the PM threads. The Hunter is looking very nice. Once again, I love the separate control surfaces.

As for the speed brake, the bottom speed brake on the MiG-19 looks like an after thought too.

Ah, those bulging and other round shapes, not my favorites either. I usually try as much as possible to glue tiny strips of thin paper on the inside to seal the joints and to help shaping the surfaces. Probably the designer of such a speed brake had a van with a tail gate in mind.... in any case, your Hunter is looking very good Isaac.

Cheers,
Erik

I made a minimal attempt in fixing the bulges. I sanded the paper as much as I dared without causing any tears . I then repainted it with my pens.

Here it is.

A better method would be to re design the bulges without the seams on the long axis ( like a half fuel tank ) . Or better yet, vacuform them.

Smile Landing gear

The wheels are round card stock glued together and then sanded to shape.

I used my little mini lath for that quick job.

all sanded

painted

hubs on

partial struts without details

Main gear is on
Hawker Hunter F.5 WAK 1/33-img_0741.jpgHawker Hunter F.5 WAK 1/33-img_0742.jpg

Now add some of the gear details and doors

Nose gear on.

The forward door will be added later because I still have work to do on the model and that door will just break off if installed now.

The wheels look perfect and I fully agree with you regarding the design of bulges. Always wondered why Tamiya Rubber Black is only available in the smaller size jars.... when painting larger wheels you need quite a bit of it .

Cheers,
Erik

Exclamation Cockpit-finishing touches

Here is the ejection seat. Nothing special, but adequate for the job

I have to check the clearance with the canopy before gluing it in place. Looks kind of too tall?
