Hi Isaak
The Hunter cocpit is looking so british to my eyes. Anyway the MK.5 was participating in Mosketier
joint operation of france and GB in October1956. The yellow stripes were put in order to distingwish
between friendly planes to enemy planes. The main role of the Hunter at the operation was to escort
the Canberra bombers from Akrotiri in Cyprus to bombing area near the Suez canal and back.
Great build Isaac !

Always interesting historical background to our implements of war. In this case the British and French imperialistic interests in the Suez canal. Israel got dragged into this stupid conflict.

The build will continue.

Red face canopy-Oops-dent

Here is the packaged canopy from Model-Kom
Hawker Hunter F.5 WAK 1/33-img_0771.jpg

unfortunately this one is damaged. I think I must have dented it somehow when I placed it on my cluttered workbench.

Solution is to make a new mold using the dented canopy as a tub and pour Plaster of Paris into it.

I did not add enough water to the slurry and it came out pasty instead of runny. Hence all the voids and air bubbles trapped.

I repaired the voids using automotive putty.

At least I repaired the dented area.

Next is vacuforming a new canopy. Not today though.

when I modeled aircraft large enough for cockpits I used sculpey clay to make the vacuform molds. it held up surprising well sanding out imperfections was simple.

I never used Sculpey, but will give it a try.

https://www.michaels.com/sculpey-3-o...8_color=Yellow

can I pour it into a mold?

I also want to make sure it will not stick to the plastic tub ( I cover the insides of the tub with oil to make sure it does not stick ).

It says I have to bake it? Not sure I want that step though? It may change shape when removed from the tub.

Thanks

Isaac

use the sculpey as is you could oil the plastic canopy. what I did was use the paper canopy as the female mold. Use any tabs on the outside of the canopy. you could use this form and dry fit it to the fuselage to make sure it fits. press the sculpey into the form and bake it as is in the oven. it is very low temp for 15 minutes I think, check the label for sure. you then can peel off the paper canopy and lightly sand any imperfections seams on the sculpey.

That is OK method for the paper canopy mold. I agree, and will try.

However,

pressing sculpey into a plastic canopy and baking it may further damage the plastic mold unless it is removed prior to baking. Not sure how this will work, but I can try.

Thanks again

use the oil on the plastic canopy to keep it from sticking to it. do not bake the sculpey inside that plastic mold. a thought just occurred you could oil the plastic canopy, place the sculpey into it, then freeze it for a short while this would make the sculpey easier to remove without deformation. you probably need to let it return to room temperature before baking. search this website I'm sure I left a quick tutorial on vacuformed canopies.
