Engine inlets and side fairing
The engine inlets on the Hunter were very similar to other British 1950's and early 60's designs in that they were incorporated into the wing inner section as a continuous blend of the wings into the fuselage. The D.H Vampire, the D.H Seahawk, Sea Vixen, the V series bombers and many more.
So the challenge for the builder is to mate the side inlet/inner wing to the fuselage as well as the outer wing itself. So lets start. Inlets: Recall that I cut the stub frames from the fuselage construction to ease that process. Now re attach it by gluing it back in place. add the strips to attach the inlet boundary layer separation plate. glue the inlet in place add the boundary layer plate ( notice the proper orientation ). both inlets are now glued in place. Isaac

Hunter T7 two seater
Hi Isaac - the Hunter MK 5 that you build is
a very nice replica of the best post ww2 jet fighters that were built in GB. I built this T7 model 6 months ago and while it is simple it shows the nice lines of the Hunter . |

Inlets contnued
Now that the inner air inlets are in place, its time to do the external fairing with the wings/fuselage.
Add the rib also, since the rear stub spar is kind of thin at the rib, I added a piece of paper clip and then cut it to size. Glued using Cyno Acrylate ( CA glue ). add small strips to the side of the fuselage to attach the side cheeks. Here is the external surface of the side fairing/cheek The main landing gear bay is assembled, dry fit, but is not glued. Now glue in place at the fuselage first. Nice fit. next, glue to the rib and both cheeks are glued in place Isaac

Spine and vertical fin
Here are the parts
glue the forward parts that will mate with the canopy. For the long thin spine, I added an inner dowel on top to keep the shape. glue on. I used Tamiya low tack tape to hold in place. Here are the rear segments of the spine and the vertical fin. For the tail vertical frame, I added a paper clip cut to length and glued on. add two gussets for added support glue the tail on. The only issue I had was that the coloring on the center spine did not match the front and back at the same time. I had to compromise. I may need to fix a small part of it later. Isaac

Wings
Here is the internal structure parts
assembled dry fit next are the wing skins again, the frames are inserted for dry fit only. and ready I chose to glue the wing frames to the fuselage sides. Anyway you choose, will be difficult to fit and match everything. Isaac

Wings- part 2
The next step is to build the main landing gear wells. I added a wood dowel pinned with paper clip cut to length to support the struts later on.
challenge is to glue it in place and make sure it fits both the fuselage side cheeks and wing cut out. This was not one of my better works. ready the parts Now glue the wings on. Top first and then when dry, the bottom. I tried to fit bot seams, but the bottom side refused to cooperate for me and resulted in a poor fit. both wings are on. I had to cut out and move one of the gear wells as it was off enough not to fit properly. I don't know how the original designer managed to fit all the surfaces together perfectly. It is extremely complicated process. Another observation is that the wing upper surfaces appear wavy. For some reason, the wing cross section and the internal framing/landing gear well did not match properly and I over pressed it onto the frame. Oh well! Isaac
