Great work on this old model from the 1950s . I n3ver saw it built.
I remember as a child looking for the kit and never found it. I did build a 1/33 scale Fly Model of the Draken.. Love the double delta. Isaac

Saab 35 vs Mig 21 Finish air force
The two were served together in the Finish air force. Two mach 2.0 fighters with similar performance with a slight better weapon system in the draken - the one here is the draken prototype.
The length is close between the two but the draken wings are much bigger in size. Climb to altitude almost the same and in dogfight the pilot level will dictate who will win. |

Saab 35 early stages and development
The Saab 35 was and still a very attractive
Plane. The need for a fast supersonic fighter was started as early as 1950. Sweden as a neutral country developed and build her military planes by the Saab company. After two successful design - Saab 29 Tunan and Saab 32 both very good planes in compare to simillar era planes. The Draken used a double delta wing - big part of the wing served as wing for low speeds and outer wing used for speed. A special small model tested to prove the aerodynamic properties and the build of the prototype started. The first flight was as early 1955 and the plane was the second to break the level sound barrier in Europe atfer the French Super Mystere. Avon engine with 6.8 ton thrust was used for the production planes that entered service in 1960. The plane had a mach 1.8 top speed and a climb rate better than 35000 feet per minute. Saab 35 vs F-104 Starfighter
Both planes are mach 2.0 capable and the F-104 is capable of mach 2.2 compare to the Draken mach 2.0 . The climb rate is around 40000 feet per min in both.
The Draken is more agile thanks to the much bigger wing size. While the F-104 participated in several wars in Asia in the Indo pakistan and Vietnam the Draken was not fired in anger . Attached are the two in 1:48 scale. The publisher is Wilhelmshavener for both and in both the design is very good if we take into account that they were designed back in the 60's. Will be continued Yair |

Saab 35 vs F-4D Skyray
Tbe two planes flew in 1955 if we conclude that the Skyray with the J57 was the real plane. The Skyray strong point was It's climb ability which was around 20000 feet per min whilr the Draken prototype here easily did 30000 !
In terms of speed the Skyray top speed was was mach 1.1 while the Draken did mach 1.8 . Since the engines were almost the same 6.8 vs 7.2 ton thrust it seems that the Saab was far more advanced aerodynamic shape. The Skyray is from Ecardsmodels in 1:48 scale. Will continue Yair |

Hi Abir - I build all my models in a scale of 1:48 and because of that I can compare with many fighters !
Thanks -Yair |
