Airco DH2

Hello all !

Here is my "Airco DH2" from Fiddlers Green (approx. 1:50 scale).

We can't say that Fiddlers Green designs incredible models but i like them... They allow learning of the paper modeling for cheap and they often provide a good basis that can be enhanced.
Most of the parts are correct, nothing more (front fuselage, wings, wheels landing gear...).
I re-built the twin-girder fuselage with balsa. The cockpit was empty except the pilot's seat. I added (with the means at hand !) a handle, the pilot's straps, a dashboard, a mast to fix the machine gun and its "windscreen". Parts of the engine have been modified, then i completed it so that it looks at best like the "Gnome" engine which fitted that plane.
The rear skate is missing, i have built it in full.
To enhance the plane, addition of parts such as the exhaust pipe, fuel tank caps, compass box, rudder control brackets, an aluminum bands painted on the front fuselage to recreate the top and bottom junction...
Wing masts, landing gear, have been rebuilt in balsa. Cables are made with sewing thread.

The rigging is incredible. I have a Blackburn Triplane to build but have a difficult time understanding the placement of the rigging.

A fabulous model you should be proud of. It really does look the part.

Please send the pictures to Fiddlers Green - I am sure they would be very pleased to see these.

And well done on a truly masterful build of the basic model!
