Lockheed L188 Cockpit in 1:12

My subject is an airliner from the 1950s. Last of the large turboprops, it had a short life in major airline service due to a design flaw resulting in some spectacular accidents. A marvellous machine once fixed, the few remaining of the one hundred and seventy five built still do cargo and firefighting work to this day. Two pilots and a flight engineer had their hands full with manual systems and limited help from the autopilots of the time. The cockpit was a very busy place, and an excellent candidate for scale model reproduction if you like a lot of detail.
The picture below was my inspiration. A couple of shots of my mat board roughed in outline are here as well. Hope to attract a few followers as I will need all the help I can get.

Glad you are interested John. If you ever find yourself in the sharp end of an Electra with nothing to do, a shot of the jump seat and the area behind it would be most appreciated.

None up here at the moment, but you might want to try some of the avsim sights to see if there is anything accurate.
Another source could be operating manuals at https://www.flight-manuals-online.com/?s=l188 . I have used their manuals for other projects and they seem to be good people to order from.

What a great idea! What is the scale of your cockpit? And are you using foam board for the floor? It will be interesting to see how you will construct such a complicated model.

Scale is one inch to the foot, and I use mat board for almost everything. I do have a hefty quarter inch plate of plexiglass screwed to the underside of the floor though. The detail is not that hard, but it sure is tedious, even if you love doing it. Check out my toggle switches coming up next
