Ouragan MD 450
The Ouragan was the first post war jet of France after WW2. It can be compared with
tbe F-84 Thunderjet series in terms of performance. Max speed of 940 kph and 7000 feet per minute climb. The engine was the RR nien of 5200 lb thrust and the frame was strong. The Ouragan was serving in France India and Israel where he participated in 3 wars !!! Tbe service in the IAFstreched from 1955 to 1974 and was long and successful as the type was very capable as ground attack plane with rocketts and 4 x 20 mm guns. In the Six day war a mig 21 was credited to Ouragan !!! The Ouragan could take a lot of punishment from AA fire and still fly. The remains were sold to El Salvador in 1975-6 and served well there. Mystere II MD 452
The Mystere II was a streched Ouragan and many design features remained.
The fuselage was longer and the wings had a 30 degrees swept. No less than 10 prototypes were built and final production was given the Atar 101 engine. Only 150 were produced and the type was the first to get supersonic flight in a dive in Europe in 1951. The type serve only for 3 years and was phased out of service in 1957. In 1954 Israeli deligation tested it but found it lacking in many areas and it was decided to wait to the Mystere 4 which was in the testing program and was much better option - Somthing that historically proved right. Trident looks cool, very retro-sci-fi, (does the Trident look retro sci-fi or does retro sci-fi look like the Trident?) but those ramjet engines way out at wingtips, even on its short wings, would have me deeply paranoid about its one engine out flyability if I were a pilot.
The fuselages of a lot of those bring to mind fish, which I guess is not odd since fish and airplanes both want to move efficiency through a fluid medium.

Trident SO 9050
Hi - because of your post I will change a bit the order and put the Trident before the Mystere IV- Only one year difference anyway. The Trident had 2 versions I and II.
The power was hybrid with a rocket engine at the back and jet engines at the wing tips. For take off and landings the jet engines were operated and for fop performance the rocket that could achieve over mach 2.0 and climb to 50000 feet in 2 min. Also the rocket engine could reach very easy heights over 80000 feet . The program was abandoned bicause of the Mirage IIIc which was much more conventional. Yair Yair |

Mystere IV - the winner of Kadesh Operation
The Mystere IV was not a streched Mystere II but a new design and therefor a much better plane. I will give a review in the next cahpter but for now some images.
