Nice work Yair! Have you perhaps tried to downscale Yoav’s Phantom to 1:48?

Regards,
Erik

Thank you all for the reply's !!!
I am building my models without wheels so I can take images in flight.
I decided that the series of Phantoms will start with this NAVY version
with the short stubby nose and infra red sensor below. Yes I will build
Yoav Phantom but i have other planes waiting for their turn before !

f-4 Phantom vs Mig - 17 Yom Kippur war 1973

Yom kippur war started at 14:00 PM October 6th 1973 as a surprise for Israel.
The Egyptian air force started to attack many military targets in Sinai peninsula
and among those targets was the area of south Sinai known as Sharem El Sheich region.
The Egyptian throw to the battle no less than 28 mig 17 + mig 21 , the majority of them mig 17 that carried bombs.
On the IAF base named Ofhire in Sharem two F-4 E phantoms were in alert so when the strike started they were scrambled to intercept the coming migs.
They recognized the migs with the F-4 E radar and one took the eastern side of the front while the other took the western side.
The F-4 E Phantoms used all the weaponry arsenal - Aim 7 , Sidewinders and
the Vulcan 20 mm gun . Within 5 minutes 7 migs were downed - one crew
had 4 kills and the second 3 kills. 5 of the migs downed were mig 17's.
One Phantom flew so low that during the dogfight his Phantom touched the
water 3 times without any damage!!!
The F-4 E crews received a special Commendation Medal for the event.

F-4 Phantom on the Mig -17 tail

In Yom Kippur war most of the shoot down's were done by air to air missiles and from short range the weapon of choise was the sidewinder !
Attached some images of the two.

It must have been terrifying to have an F-4 in the queue.

VF -161 May 18 1972 - two Mig -19 kill

The Vietnam airforce received in 1969 a small batch of 44 mig-19 in 1969.
In 1972 these fighters were able to down 4 Phantoms but at least 12 were shoot down in the process. The weapon they used was a trio of NR 30 mm guns which were very deadly when fired from short range.
In may 18 two Phantoms crews shoot down two Mig-19 and dwindeld their number in the Vietnam airforce even further. Toward the end of Linebaker II most of the Mig -19 force was destroyed !!!
Some images from may 18th.

F-4B VF-111 Sundoweners vs mig -21 Vietnam war

The mig -21 entered service in 1966 in Vietnam. The type was not known to the Americans and caused real concern - it was nimble fast and unlike the Phantom didn't leave a black smoke from the engines !
The mig-21 was using a tactic to come from above at 1.5 mach and released the Attol missile which was the russian copy of the sidewinder on the American fighters.
Only two NAVAL american fighters could handel it at the time - F-4 Phntom and F-8 Crusader .
The Crusader kill rate against the mig fighters was better than the Phantom but I will talk about it in later chapters.
