F-105 Thunderchief images Geli 1:48

Some photos of the Geli 105. The model is reduced to 1:48 which is my standard scale. The fuselage looks like a giant bullet
and the wings are short - somthing that is good for stability at low level were the 105 was one of the fastest fighters !!!

Very interesting story about the performance of 105 Yair. I didn't know that so many were lost.

Dear Sergio - if you will see in You tube the story of the f-105 You will
realize that the problem was not the plane but the tactic that the AMERICAN
used with it - they send the F-105 to bomb useless targets against the most
dense anti aircraft fire that was networked with Radar from 23 to 100 mm not to remind the 100 SAM 2 BATTERIES !!!
Just to remind the Phantom loses in Vietnam including USAF NAVY and MARINES were over 600 !!!

F-4 Phantom vs F-105 Thunderchief

The two were the main work horses over NV while the F-100 Hun was doing the same job over SV .
A comparetion between the two :
F-105 19.2m length span - 10.65
weight - max 25 ton max load - 6 ton
F-4 19.2 m length span 11.8 weight - max 26 ton max load 7 ton
Engines F-105 J75 12.5 ton with water injection take off
F-4 two J79 - 15 ton combind
Speed F-105 - low 1.2 mach 2.25 high
Speed F-4 -low 1.2 mach 2.4 mach high 1.8 mach with Tiseo.
Rate of climb - around 35k both.
Range is similar around 3500 km with max fuel.
Wing load is better for Phantom and better turn and climb rate.
The f-105 D was one of the fastest low level the fighters and with full AB was supersonic after bomb release on the deck !!!
The Phantom had a better radar and radar guided missiles that the Thud didn't had.
So the Phantom was a better interceptor
The F-105 D was the better bomber..

F-4 Phantom vs F-105 Thunderchief images

While the two are similar in length it is clear that the Phantom has a bigger wing area and a better turn rate than the smaller Thud wing !
The small Thud wing give the Thud more stability and very high speed at low level flight !!!

Vietnam Trio work - horses

The 3 main fighters of Vietnam :
The F-100 Super Sabre or Hun for the 100 series was the main bomber on the south serving as an air artillery where needed.
The F-105 was the main bomber in the north doibg over 75% of the strikes against the most heavily defended targets in the world.
The F-4 Phantom was used as multi role fighter both in the south and north - mainly interceptor but also as a bomber used by USAF MARINES and NAVY.

F-4B VF-111 Sundoweners more images

The last Phantom lasted up to the corona crisis in Japan service and 62 long years after maiden flight.
In the next chapters here I will deal with the entry to service Vietnam war and service with other Airforces of the type.

These last photos show all the elegance and frightening figure of the Phantom, with its nose slightly down, the tips of the wing raised and the tail fallen. And apart from this its great features. A fabulous aircraft.

Fully agree with that, the Phantom has a very characteristic look. A great design, and of course a very fine build!

Cheers,
Erik
