Ww2 carriers

The typical ww2 carrier was comprise from a flat deck of couple of inches metal and control Island in the starboard side.
Below were the hangars for aircraft repair and crew and facilities rooms.
The engines were below at the back. For a takeoff the pilot opened full throttle and that was it. For landings there were 6 cables that the pilot need to catch with the Hook where cable 3 was the target.
The planes were tied on the deck and there was a mechnic patent which tilted up the wings to save spcae on the deck to hall more planes. A heavy AA guns against air attacks were everywhere around the deck.
The big advantage of the carrier was the ability to bring Air Power very fast to every where when ever an intervention was needed.
When the early NAVY jets started to emerge after WW2 some of the things had to be changed.

F-9F Panther - Strike 1

The Panther is the first to enter service among the 10. The Grumman company created a very fine aircraft around an american version of the centricfugal RR tay engine. The Performance were medicure but the plane was sturdy and had good handling. As the Korea war started Panthers started to operate with task force 77 near the battle. The Panther was used as a strike fighter carry rockets and bombs
and also dogfighter downing 9 Mig-15s during the war. Only this year a story of a Panther pilot was released to the public - a story how he shootdown 4 Mig -15s in one single mission !!!
The Panther was Phased from service circa 1956 and was replaced by the Cougar which was the follow up type of Grumman.
Despite a 120 km per hour less than the Mig and half a climb rate it proved that the level of the pilot is the ultimate factor in dogfights .
The model is from Ecardsmodels and scale 1:48 while the scheme is of the Drone version .

Really like the F9F and F4D in utility colors.
And after all these years, ...
Cutlass still looks really cool.
Phantom still looks like a brutal beast.
Crusader still looks fast, as in FAST!.

Another great set Hyair. They are all very nice builds. My favorite would have to be the Phantom.

Thanks,
Gary

Fury FJ-2 - Strike 2

Gary and Southwestforests - Thanks for the reply's.

The Fury Fj-2 was developed from the f 86 E. Sabre.
So it retained the J47 engine with 6000 lb thrust and front gear strut was changed to
longer one while a hook was added for carrier landings . These changes added some
500 kg. to the plane weight. Externally there was also a change as the 6 machine guns of 0.5
were replaced by 4 × 20 mm colt 12 guns.
The navy made trials for carrier adaptation but these were not a success as the landing
speed was higher from the Cougar and the approach stability was found lacking.
Because of these reasons the Fj-2 was handed over to the marine corps units that were
operating from land bases. The production run totaled 200 Fj-2.
The service was very short from 1954 to 1956 and later reserve units till 1957.
Later Fury's were much more successful and the Fj-3 was a very different
design with the J65 engine with 7500 lb thrust and more fuel in the body.
The top number - the Fj-4 was a totally new plane designed from the outset
to carrier operations and was served until the mid 60's with the navy.
The B version of the Fj-4 was adapted to carry 4 Bullpap missiles.

Fury FJ-2 - Strike 2 images

The FJ-2 was an upgrade of the F-86E so the model of the images F-86F is fairly close . The most evident change is the adding of the hook !!!

Another extraordinary set of models! Although I like airplanes of all time, those of those years are first in my preferences.
