Maly P-51B - Replacement Build
I decided it was time to dive in to this one.
I built one of these about 12 years ago and had it stationed on my desk at work. Unfortunately, I lost that job in 2009 and was not allowed to pack up my cubicle properly. My personal effects were thrown in a box and mailed to me including this model. It did not survive that experience. So here I go again. I don't think I did any build thread of it, but if I had it would have been on a different forum. I am sure I am not building this in the exact same way as before, at least I hope not. Instead of building this numerically by part number, I am focusing more on following the illustration sequences. There is part of a page full of formers that get laminated onto 0.5 mm card. Its sufficient for the most part. I may beef up the main wing spar when I get to that point. Anyway, I have completed the fuselage forward of the cockpit. Fit was good but a few formers were still a little undersized even after adding joining strips. greg

I know this model and have a couple of copies in boxes somewhere but I have never seen step by step build of one.Thank you for doing this.
One thing I remember from making Maly kits is a lot of them like to have outside lines of parts cut out. They seem to fit a bit better but half the time it was hit an miss.New Maly kits are different ball game altogether. |

Although there are some errors in parts location marking and some vague parts location which requires some thought to overcome, the resulting pilot's office looks OK to me.

Been busy with several different projects as of late, several in plastic. Regardless I have made progress on this. The basic fuselage is done complete with tail feathers.
Fit is OK but not perfect. Unfortunately I don't remember my experience when I built the first one of these many years ago. Greg

I also got the wing substructure built up. I did add reinforcement pieces this time, unlike the original build.
I'm out of town next week so no more progress on this one until next weekend. Greg

I have always loved the Brit -51's. The camp makes them look so purposeful.

The basic wing is almost finished up. Unfortunately not my best results, although I don't remember how things turned out the first time I built one of these.

Thought I had taken more pictures but see that I didn't. Crap.
Anyway here is what I can provide as an update. The main gear assemblies. I know I did the wheels a little differently than before. This time I made extra discs to give the basic tread more strength. As designed, there is nothing inside each wheel, that needed changed for this second build. greg
