A4E/H Skyhawk 1/100 by S&P
This little skooter is one of the downsized birds but it deserved her own spotlight. The US sold Israel skyhawks during the early years of the IDF.
At first they were E/F models but they were modified to Israeli standards. new avionics, engines cannons and some got an electronic hump, some an extended tailpipe. This kit is somewhat mislabeled as a N model but has early H or E characteristics. It has 30mm cannon a squareish rudder/tailpiece and just awesome colors. The build includes how to do them forward leading edge slates... Start with the wings. cut out the areas where the closed slat position is, fold over the inner leading edge and place it in the wing a little back, there are guide lines that indicate where, the close up the wing. it kinda folds over like a closing clam. |

The leading edge slats are folded over and sharply greased at very forward edge. these then get placed over the res parts drooping down a little. underneath are little "extender struts" that dress up the underside a bit. they are fussy little things to shove under, I just cut them flush rather that bugger the smooth lines of the slat...

Great! In my first A-4 I did not want to complicate because I was not very sure how this part was. In the second I forgot and closed the wings, I also forgot to cut the brake on the back of the fuselage to leave it open. I will try this and this thread will be of great help.

I actually was thinking of your Skyhawk builds when building this kit.
the little gems go together very well the toughest part is the damn refuel probes. I cheated after 3 attempts in paper and used pencil lead painted in camo colors. The largest pains in this kit are what loadout you are going to place on the pylons. |

As concerns the Leading Edge Slats, they are free moving and droop down/forward quite a lot without air pressure to force them up. Also, they are not red on the bottom, and neither is any portion of the wing bottom at that location. Here's a good photo showing the coloring, the slat extension, and the wing bottom. Gene K |

I had that sneaky suspicion of colors. I have The Dr Zarkov big 1/33 scale kit released thru Moshe Lemur and those interiors were also red so I kept it. The do usually just hang open when on the ground. I have the other IAF versions on a short list and I'll correct when they pop up in the pile.

When I failed the first attempt with the probe I got a wire with the necessary thickness, paint and solved the problem. I have no idea how some do to roll those tubes.

depends on the thickness of the tube, in shorter lengths I can get just under 1mm with typewriter thickness paper. the longer tubes have been giving me trouble in the last couple years. I think my fingers got fat!

Next up is the engine housing. This fits over the fuselage in a saddle like fashion. I started with curving and pre shaping the part. I used small triangles of card to back the part so it didn't split after. The 2 small air intakes were then fitted to the forward edges...
