Chris, depending on what operating system you use, if you have a Mac, you could try CHEETAH3D, which is a very understandable program. Otherwise I would suggest Sketchup, which can also produce nice 3D drawings. I tried BLENDER, but have to resign it, because of it's complexity !!
I know how you feel, feeling stupid not to grasp it, I have the same problem, my excuse is my age
