Cool Aer Lingus Airbus A330-200

Here is another one of the airliners that I am building while away from home. This one is a repaint by John Bowden of a Paper-Replika Airbus A330-200. The scale appears at around 1/150 ( it does not state it on the kit or the download section which is a pet peeve of mine ).

The file is in our Download section. Here is the link:
http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/v...ownloadid=1602

A bit of a background on this plane:
While working as an engine technical support, test, product support...., I needed to test an engine on wing for a specific vibration issue. So we got together with Aer Lingus in Shannon Ireland to lend us a plane ( for cost , nothing is free ) and perform full power instrumented engine runs to verify the root cause. We found the problem and I designed a fix which was implemented as a retrofit to the fleet and all new engines delivered after that. It was a great success.

....and the location, food and beer were great rewards at the end of each day.

Here are a few pics of me back in 2009 on one of their planes ( EI-JFK ) which is a sister ship to this model ( EI-DUO ).

The construction of the model is similar to the other ones I built ( the Boeing 777-200 in Asiana and El-Al colors of the same scale.

More soon.

The kit

Here are the parts.
Aer Lingus Airbus A330-200-img_1151.jpg

I printed on 160 gr paper. Had to do it twice as the ink ran out after a few pages ( so I turned them over and printed on the other side with a fresh cartridge of ink ).

I noted again that there are no instructions with the file ( nor the other ones I downloaded. I guess you can go to the paper-replika web site and download from there if it exists ).

Nothing unusual or complicated. Round cylindrical fuselage, simple tail surfaces and wings with no detail.

This kit will be built for a display on the wall and viewed from afar, so that was good for what I needed.

Exclamation Nose section

The nose section is the one that gave me the most problems. Kind of small parts that all fit together.

The green section in front of the windscreen did not match well for me.

It was fixed by printing on thin paper and covering the mismatched area.

Cool Fuselage belly pan

Here is the lower fuselage belly pan. It is the fairing for the wing attachments.

Isaac,

Thanks for the background, it's a very interesting story. Was Aer Lingus the only airline that had a vibration issue on the A330?

You're doing a great job on the fuselage.

The vibration was common to all the GE CF6-80E engines powering the Airbus A330. I found out based on the testing that there was a major external component that was resonating at cruise condition. Once I confirmed it, I was able to design a modified support that was easy to retrofit and the problem went away.
