As I like the Russian jet fighter nish I build many of them. Here I present the Russian Jet fighters that were built in the last 10 years.

Hyair colorful group of planes, I see two of them with Israeli badges probably captured planes, you have some history related to them

Hi Meteor - The colorful Mig -21 f13 is the famous Mig -21 that deserted from Iraq in Summer 1966 by a Israeli MOSAD operation and was called 007 for that.

The Mig -23 was deserted in 1992 by a syrian pilot and while testing by Israeli pilots was colored with both Syrian and Israeli colors.

A few fact about Russian Jet fighters :
1. Numbers built : Mig -15 most produced as more than 15000 were built !
2.Mig -21 most produced supersonic fighrer as 10800 were built only in Rossia.
3. IL- 28 most produced tactical bomber as 6000 were built.
4.Mig-21was exported to a greater number of countries than any jet fighter.
5.Since interduced in 1959 the Mig -21 is still in service in more than 10 airforces 61 years after !!!
6. Some systems on mig fighters were very strong and durable for years without the need for heavy maintainance like thier westren counterparts.
7. The need for so many fighters was mainly because of the huge area of current Russia and former USSR - will be continued!

Hi Dane - one of the problems in former Russia was that many accidents were not informed to the westren world.
Among the fighters while the Mig -15 and Mig -17 were relativaly with low attrition rate the Mig -19 was very unrelayable and had many crashes with blow-up in mid air as result of very warm rear section and oil leaks.
The Mig-21 has a very high speed during landing of 340 kph and many were destroyed in India - more than half of the fleet.

The two represent the soviet doctrine of building airoplanes which are used for various tasks each. The Yak 28 was a development of the Yak 25 series and had 3 versions - Interceptor bomber and spy & electronic warfare. The IL 28 was a tactical bomber but was adapted to countless misions including carring torpedos for sea warfare.
Also it was the most produced tactical bomber as 6000 were built in Russia and China !!!

When the mig- 15 appeared in Korea it was a bad surprise for the american p-80 pilots.
The mig was 100 miles faster and more maneuverable then the shooting star. The best plane the US had was the f-86 sabre that was rushed to.the war theater.
At the end of WW2 the Russians captured German documents that showed the swept
wing benefits of higher speed and less drag. Also German scientists and researchers
that work on it were captured.
The Russian had one problem - lack of powerful enough engine. A Russian delegation visited
Britain RR engine factory. They made an agreement to buy the RR nein engine and won a supply of 50 engines without production documents and one of the delegation's members collected flacks of metal use for turbine production of the engine.
That was the birth of the mig-15 as the soviet were masters in reverse engineering . In 1947 the mig 15 prototype flew and the rest is history.
The Russian copied the engine and started mass building of it.
The mig -15 proved to have very good rate of climb , high speed and good flying qualities.
Ammunition was 2×23 mm plus 1×37 mm guns.
