WASP R-985 1/33 scale

I have been working on a Paper Replika Beaver for an embarrassingly long time. I finally picked it up again and wanted more detail in the engine. Not finding any engine models readily availability (due in part because I thought it was a Whirlwind engine - which I now learn is a WASP), I started my own.

Here is a WIP that looks like it might have some potential.

Joke is on me, the cowl is already on the airplane.

To be honest, the plane as it sits with wings and floats, no tail or motor or propeller has me fascinated and I have been reluctant to touch it.

RubenAndres has a Wasp in 33 scale as part of the Ford Trimotor. (Now I find it!)

The R-985 is technically a 'Wasp Junior', but you are correct that it is the engine that powers Ford Trimotors.

You got my curiosity up so I searched this forum and found this thread from 2014: 'WASP radial engine in 1/48 scale
Please post pictures of the engine as you work on it!

I promise to post pictures, but if you've been watching the Beaver progress you know that patience is well beyond the virtue state.

The latest speed bump was my wife buying a Cricut paper cutting machine, and that simply mandated a try at the Eiffel Tower.

Here is my contribution to the world of Wasp (jr.) modeling fanatics.

Remember it is for a Beaver, so the ends of the cylinders will be covered by the cowling.

And it fits into the cowling that is already installed.

And one work in progress. the rings holding the cylinders were not working out, so I changed to a more substantial hub (actually one front and one back).

It took me a while to get the drawings posted to the downloads section of PM.

They are there under Props/Civilian/aircraft.

There is an all black version with the same 'registration squares' as the skinned version (except for the chromed pipes, I painted those with silver sharpie) for anyone that might have a Cricut or similar paper cutter.
