F-100D vs Mig -19S - who was first Supersonic

The prototypes of voth first flew in 1953 and each one claim to win the title of the first operational Supersonic fighter in level flight.
However when we give a close look it is the Super Sabre that had the J57 afterburning engine first and the Mig -19 which was twin engine recieve the afterburning ebgines toward 1954 and therefore it's the Hun that win here.

Super Sabre vs Super Mystere

Around 1960 an american journalist visited Israeli air force base with a host of course.
While they were close to a hangar he saw jets with big oval intakes in the nose.
He called his host and said "I didn't know that you have Super Sabres ". His host half
smiling answered " Yes these are super but super mysteres- our new supersonic fighter ".
Well, you couldn't blame much the journalist as the super mystere has a strong similarity
with the first american super sonic fighter the F-100 super sabre.
Even during the operational service years there was similarity as both started life as
interceptors and later as a ground support fighters.
In order to achieve super sonic speed in a level flight each plane had an engine with an after burner.
The f-100 had J57 and the super mystere atar 101G.
F-100 was called " HUN " - short of 100 and the super mystere B 2 was called " sambad " - super mystere b douxe which is two in french.
While the f-100 served till 1977 with the american national guard the Sambad was sold by Israel in 1975 as the Israeli S'aar converted version to Honduras and served there until 1994.
I will pose them side by side in next post here.

Super Sabre F-100D vs Super Mystere B2 images

From the front the two are looking very simillar because of the oval front air intake. Moving backwards the main wings and tail shape are different in the horizontal stabilizers location that are mounted upper on the tail in the super mystere. Also the rear end part in the super sabre is made of titanium because of the
higher working temperature of the J57 while it is standard in the super mystere.
The Super mystere was colored and redesigned by Yoav Hozmi and both are in 1:48 scale.

Super Sabre vs Super Etendard

20 years are seperating between the two but as the super sabre was used so well as an artillery bomber in South Vietnam the Etendard got his fame in the Falkland war 15 years later than 1967 and Vietnam war. The big difference among the two lies in the concept .The Etendard because of a much more modern design have the same performance as the sabre without the need for afterburner. So it has a better range and better load carry capacity with much more modern weapons and modern weapon delivery system for more precise bombing .
Even without the exocet the Supet Etendard is way better as an attack plane than the super saber becaue it is a much more modern design and was designed from the outset for it's mission and was not adapted as in the super sabre case.

F-100D vs A-7D

The two both fought in Vietnam although not in the exact same time. The Super Sabre started the war from the begining while the Corsair II from December 1967. But on the other hand the Corsair II fought till the end of the war in early 1973 so they are even.
Both performed endless attack missions and while the F-100 main theatre was south Vietnam the Corsair main attacks were against North Vietnam which was much more riskier . As 270 F-100 were lost vs only 54 A-7 it is a clear win for the Corsair II.
So how the slower plane did it ? the answer is simple - better attack and navigation systems that allowed it to destroy a target in one pass !!!
Not only that it could carry twice the bomb load to a greater range and therefore the CORSAIR II is the clear winner !!!

Fantastic Yair comparisons: The Super Etendart in Malvinas was successful with the Exocet thanks to the very capable technicians who managed to put the Sue-Exocet system without French assistance that was suspended at the outbreak of the conflict, which took the task force it thought by surprise. that the system was not operational. Another would have been the story if the Exocet could not be used, as well as if Argentina had had more than 5 that were those that had arrived before the embargo.

Hi Sergio - the Super Etendard is a very nice plane full with modern systems for it's time even without the Exocet missle it had the agave sea maping radar and sagem inertial navigation attack system which was very precise at bombing.

F-100D vs A-7D images

The Super Sabre is a bit longer than the Corsair II and the span is also slighly longer. The A-7 is not having after burner and does not need the titanium shield of the aft section as in the F-100. In terms of beauty the F-100 looks much better than the SLUF (short little ugly fellow).
The Corsair is the GPM 67 model and I reduced it to 1:48 from 1:33.

F-100D Super Sabre vs Vautour SO4050

Why to compare between two such different looking planes - beacause of thier mission which was the same as a bomber attack planes .
The Super Sabre could take 2 tons of various bombs rockets napalms and had 4 20 mm guns.
The Vautour had an internal bomb bay that allowed it drop bombs in a Supersonic dive and could carry 4.5 tons of various bombs rockets
and had 4 30 mm guns.
At low level the penetration speed of both was the same around 550 knots with bombs while the Vautour range was much better.
The SuperSonic speed of the Super Sabre could only attained at height and not at low level.
The only issue bugging the Vautour was it's complexcity as it required 15 hours of work per 1hour flight. The F-100 seems to require much less.
The Vautour was developed from the outset as an attack bomber while the F-100 as an Interceptor.
However it is always interest me to know what would have happen if the Vautour had to do the F-100 missions of bombing south of Vietnam if the attrition rate was lower or higher than the 270 F-100 lost for all reasons.
The Vautour had a much better fire power than the F-100 so it can be assumed that his loses very about half of the F-100 !!!

F-100D vs A-4H Skyhawk who is a better attack plane

Both planes were in the Vietnam war from the start on the same role of attack missions in Vietnam and even their loses are close as 270 F-100 and 250 A-4 were lost in the war theatre but there is one big difference - most of the F-100 missions were carried in South of Vietnam against Vietcong forces in the jungels were the anti aircraft fire was sporadic and not as dangerous as in North Vietnam which was the Skyhawk main target. The Skyhawk could carry more bombs and had a better range while only slightly slower at low level were most of the missions were carried.
Also the Skyhawk was smaller in size in compare to the F-100 with a two meter shorter fuselage and 4 meter less span 12 m vs 8 m something that made him less prone to get hit from AA fire being a smaller target to aim.
Also the attrition in landings on carriers decks is much higher from land bases that the F-100 used.
Also while the "Hun" was in model D a kind of upgrade into a bomber the Skyhawk was developed from the outset to be one !!!
As an attack plane the Skyhawk is
therefore the clear winner here !!!
