At first glance it seem like there is no link between the two.
But the reality showed that they performed the same role.
If we compare the two on attack plane basis we have -
Super Sabre - 1 J57 engine of 4.7 and 7.2 ton thrust with afterburner which give us max speed of 550 knots when loaded with external bombs rocket's etc ...
Max load of 2.5 ton and short range .
The Vautour has two Atar 101E engines with 3.5 ton each and no afterburner. The Vautuor can carry 4.5 ton load and had an internal bomb bay with sliding doors that can carry internally 2.5 ton as well Without the drag of carrying them under the wings so it can reach 595 knots in this configuration and still has more internal fuel than the Super Saber.
Also the 4 X30 mm guns of the Vautour are having much stronger fire power than the Super Sabre.
The Vautour can carry up to 204 rockets !!!
Over all the autour is a clear winner here as an attack plane.
Even as interceptor the Vautour was credited with Iraqi Hawker Hunter while the Super Sabre with a probable mig-17.
The Vautour is colored with six day war scheme and in 1:48 scale
and colored and redesigned by Yoav Hozmi .

A comparison between the two reveale the following. The Super Sabre was the more powefull of th two with J57 engine with 4.6 ton dry thrust and 7.2 with afterbuner.
The Hunter was given the Avon series 207 non afterburning engine with 4.6 ton.
As far as speed the F-100D was closed to mach 1.0 at sea level while the Hunter was 0.95 mach and climb rate was 19000 vs 17500 feet per min. The max range was above 2000 km but in the Super Sabre the use of the afterburner reduced it considerably. In terms of ammunition the Hunter had 4 x30 mm guns much more powerful from the 4x20 mm of the F-100.
The load capacity was very close among the two. The F-100 fought maily in South Vietnam as an artillery bomber with endless missions against vietcong forces in the Jungles with various bombs and rockets of all kind. It flew more missions than any other American plane in the theater and dome 250 were lost due to all reasons.
The Hunter fought in the middle east and in the Hindo Pakistan wars among some African clashes and proved to be a very dangerous opponent and excellent fighter that was loved by all it's pilots.
In air to ground missions the two are more or less equal with a slight advantage to the nimble Hunter. The Hunter was an export success story and was selling like hot cakes to many air forces around the globe.
In air to air the Hunter was much better killing Indian and Israelis fighters.
Also the attrition rate of the F-100 was much higher due to high speed landings and the awful snake dance phenomena.
The Hunter was from 1962 IAF magazine and it's origin from WHM were it was painted with Swiss markings and scale is 1:48.

You made very interesting comparisons between the F-100 and contemporary fighters.


I would like to add something that relates to the SMBD.

As I have suspected for years but verified only now, at the Dassault internet site, The Etendard is actually a step brother of the SMBD. I quote:
"To meet the requirements of both French and NATO programs, Dassault kept the aerodynamic configuration of the Mystère XX (the future Super-Mystère) by applying it to smaller aircraft equipped with engines capable of reaching transonic speeds without the use of after-burners." Also about the Etendard IV M "As with the Mystère XXII, the wing was derived from that of the Super-Mystère B 2"
The similarity is easy to see in a side view, the major difference is nose intake vs side intakes.
The speed of the Etendard IV M was subsonic, as it is an attack aircraft and not an interceptor.

Dear Jetman - the wing of the Etendard was taken from the SMBD - both are having a saw tooth in the wing middle section.
The Etendard had the Atar 8B non afterburning engine 4300 kg thrust.
At low level 1100 kph or 0.9 mach
Max Mach in a dive from height Mach 1.3 !!!
Very effiecient aerodinamically !!!
