F-100D Super Sabre vs Super Mystere B2 -Sa'ar images

The air intake with the oval shape
ist alnost the same in both planes.
Therefore the HUN vs SAMBAD fightis a very close match fight.
Some more images that shoes the main differences among the two.

Job very well done Yair, your F100 is a beauty and I enjoy reading about all the small background facts. You should consider building Yoav's F16a in 1:48, although this aircraft is not really in your favorite era?

Regards,
Erik

Dear Erik - first are you are in Netherland now with the corona crysis as I am more than a week at home now.
You are so right regarding the F-16 of Yoav as it is too advaced to my era or on the edge of mine which contains the Saab Viggen or Mirage F1 for the upper era.
I still need to build Yoav silver Super Mystere Meteor and Silver Mirage III al in 1:48 - so the F-16 can wait for his turn later.

F-100D vs F-100C

Two models of the HUN - D and C models. The D model back wing part is different in it's shape toward the connection to fuselage
if we compare to C model in which is straight line.
The D model was more adapted to ground attack missions with better electronic systems and was the most produced as 1200 of 2200 F-100's were D type.

F-100 Super Sabre in Vietnam war

The main combat of the F-100 was in south vietnam were he served as an flying artillery with napalm bombs , conventional bombs and 2.75 inch rockets beside the 4×20 mm guns.
In this role it was quite successfull. The north vietnam was left for the f-105 thud to deal with. As the war esclated more and more F-100 squadrons were called froom the states some from the ANG inventory.
In the air to air only a one kill of mig 17 is credited to the f-100. The f-105 had 27 mig 17 kills
for instance.
Also , the f-100 landings were at high speed and dangerous ( in you tube there is a video that shows the "snake dance" problem during landings ).
Therfore many f-100 had fatal accidents.
In the Danish airforce it was prone to more accidents tnan the f-104.
The pinacle of the F-100 service was with the aerobatic team of the Thunderbirds between 1957- 1969 !!!

F-100 Super Sabre in Vietnam war images

The F-100 was not a small fighter with almost 15 meter long and 12 meter span
and a weight of 15 ton . Some images of the Kamfflieger model in 1:48 scale and Vietnam livery colors.

F-100 Super Sabre and his Sabre roots

The F-100 roots are the Sabre family. While the Sabre family was all subsonic in horizontal flight the super sabre could go supersonic up to mach 1.3 withe the help of the J57 engine of 16000 lb thrust which is more than twice of the F-86D J47 afterburner 7700 lb thrust.
I pose the F-86F with the 6200 lb J47 engine and the J47 with after burner of 7700 lb thrust the F-86D sabre dog and the F-100D with the powerful J57 engine of 17000 lb thrust. All models are in 1:48 scale.

F-100 Super Sabre vs F-4D Skyray

Te Super Sabre was te first supersonic operational fighter in the world in 1953.
This cause the type to be very famous. On the other hand NAVY fighters were never considerd as famous and the bat wing Skyray is a good example.
The main common thing among the two was the engine - J57 which was the first engine to deliver 10000 lb thrust without an afterburner. The installation in the Suer sabre was simple with air duct from the front. In the Skyray two air intakes from body sides integrated into huge bat wing and because of that the engine was less powerful than te Super sabre Somewhat.
Also the fat wing of the Skyray while good for climbing like rocket in 70 degrees
angle created a lot of drag and the plane was good for mach 0.95 at low level and 1.08 at high level while the Super saber was 1.0 and 1.3 at high level.
So the much lower drag gave it 220 kph higher speed and in those days of non stop searching for higher speed it was considered as much better !!!
Also the F-100 fought in the Vietnam war and was phased out of service in 1977 while the Skyray was out of service in the early 60's before the war.
The Super sabre is from Murph's models while the Skyray Ecardmodels both in 1:48 scale.
I will post the images of the two in the next post here.

F-100 Super Sabre vs F-4D Skyray images

Although both are using the same J57 engine the look of them can't be more different. The Super sabre had the the standard look with long body and swept wings while the Skyray with it's big bat wings was a departure from norm.

F-100 Super Sabre vs F-8 Crusader

In 1952 the US NAVY had a tender for a carrier based supersonic plane.
The Vought and North American companies compete as each one proposed it's plane. North American offered a naval version of the Super Sabre and Vought offered the Crusader. The Crusader won and for a reason !!!
Both planes had the same J57 engine with almost the same specs. but the Crusader was much speedier and was a better interceptor as proved in Vietnam war where Crusaders had 19 migs
that were shootdown including 3 mig -21's while the Super sabre had only 1 suspected mig -17 kill.
Again the better aerodinamic design of a plane proved to be a wining factor on the overall plane performance.
