MD 454 Mysrere IV vs Mig -17
The Israeli Air Force Mystere encounter more than once with the Egyptian's Mig -17's and always wone the battle - why ?
The Mystere is somehow inferior to the Mig because it doesn't have an after burner like the Mig -17. This give the Mig better level speed of Mach 0.97 vs 0.92 of the Mystere at low level and much the same at height - also the climb rate of 13000 feet vs 9000 of the Mystere. In various air battles Mystere pilot were able to shootdown 4 Mig -17's without a lose ! Reason was simple - the better training of the Israelian Pilots. Attached are some images of the two - Mystere is yoav's design and Mig from Electronic models both in 1:48 scale. Yair |

Very interesting Yair comparisons. An example that sometimes something considered inferior in skilled hands can win.

Dear Sergio - the Mystere IV served in the Indian Air Force as well and was credited with Pakistani F-104 Starfighter . So the Mystere was more successful against the Mig-17 here than the F-4 Phantom against Mig-17 in Vietnam !!!
I guess it is mostly depends upon the pilots level and the tactics utilized by them. Yair |

MD Mystere IV vs Hawker Hunter - Six day war
First I was disconnected for a week from papermodelers due to server issues.
Our story begin in the morning of June the 5th 1967. In 3 glorious hours the Israelian pilots wiped out most of the Egyptian Airforce as 400 were destroyed on the ground in a well courdinated lightning strikes. The Jordanians sent attacks of Hawker Hunters that barely were effective. The Hunters were the main Jordanian force and parked in two airfields - Mafrak and Aman. A force of Mysteres encountered above the field of Aman with Hunters. Now at low level the Hunter had a clear advantage over the Mystere but a determind Israelian pilot was able to seat on a tail of one and fired with the two 30 mm from a close range just enough to have a confirmed kill. MD Mystere IV vs in Six day war 1967
In 1956 60 Mystere IVa were bought from France to form two squadrons. After more than 10 years in service the number dwindeld to 40 due to attrition and frequent use.
Despite all that the Mystere proved his ability in all the fronts of the war - Egypt Jordan and Syria when attacking airfields and destroying arab migs on the ground support for troops on the ground. Also in the air battles it was credited with two mig -17's and one Hunter which was a big success for the getting old fighter. Some images of the Mystere with the Mig -17 and Hunter all in 1:48 scale. Yair |
