Fitter's Nieuport 24 Repaint by Matt77

Hello All,

Here is one I almost have done. It just needs a couple of touch up bits. Went together really well. I used 1/32nd balsa for the formers and wing interiors instead of cardboard stock since I have a better time with that medium.

I'll post another set of shots with a nice background soon.

I really wish Matt77 would get posted on Ecards soon! I miss his lovely repaints.

That is a beautiful model. the cowl looks like a piece of vacuum formed plastic - no visible seams at all. Can you describe your technique?

Thanks, Everyone! Much appreciated.

Don: I put it together as designed...in this case just butt-joined and it looked pretty nice. But I've seen cowlings left this way by masters like Ricardo and they look so clean and nice that you can hardly see the seams. Not so with mine!

So I just smear some thick CA on the inside and let it dry. Then I simply lightly sand the whole cowling and spray on primer. Repeat until you bleed. This one took about 9-10 coats. I think it would have been quicker if I'd added some actual putty but I wanted to see if just spray primer would work. Then I airbrushed it and weathered a bit to try and match (sort of) Matt77's art work. Turned out ok.

I hope to show nice shots later today or tomorrow. It's a really nice design by Fitter and the renderings are amazing from Matt77. I'd like to see him do an RFC and a French with Fitter's design.
