It must be my aging memory that I forgot such an interesting build - especially since I commented on it! For some reason, I could not find the models at Murph's site when I looked for them, but now I have found them using his search function. I have added them to a customized bundle I am building. Don |

The XV-15 would have been listed under Failed Prototypes
The version of -15 I always wanted was the Peanut paint scheme, I have only found one picture, but I believe one of the Wings episodes from the Discovery channel had the -15 in Peanut colors flying, but that was a long time ago since I have seen those episodes. Page 93 of the this Nasa monograph on the history of the XV-15 shows the same picture as above, in black and white

Me too. Plus, for some reason, I feel like there's also a more NASA-esque paint scheme that I don't have.

That NASA monograph is a valuable publication, Rick. It appears that the camouflage scheme was used on N702NA for low altitude tests at Fort Huachuca June-July 1982 (pp. 92-93). That aircraft crashed in August 92 (pp. 98-99). In addition to the scheme of Murph's model and the 1999 USCG scheme, N703NA appeared in June 1995 at the Paris Airshow in company with a V-22 Osprey. Both aircraft appear to have been in low-visibility gray at that time (pp. 101-102).

There are also color photographs of the Civilian numbered -15, landing in Dallas. All white with a black belt line, and gold lettering and a pin stripe

There is also an all grey version with USS Tripoli on it, and a grey test bed version with orange panels

Thank you very much for sharing. This plane is a big favorite.
And I wouldn't call it a failed prototype. paving the way for the Osprey, Valor and AW609 (hopefully we wont see this in the failed prototypes as well). |
