DHC-2 Beaver, Argentine Air Force, S&P design, repainted by Wireandpaper

The FAA DHC-2 Beaver was the first rough aircraft to land in Antarctica.
On September 25, 1969 it departed from Matienzo base and later landed on the Marambio base runway.
The runway was made by a group of military personnel who with only picks and shovels and having tents as a shelter managed to build it.
In October of the same year an F-27 left from Rio Gallegos landing on the runway leaving the base inaugurated.
Feats of adventurous people who founded the foundations in that such a cold and inospito place. Bruno's design is very good, easy to build and fun. And special thanks to Pablo for his attention and generosity in giving me the model and repainting. Thousand thanks again.
The model is very nice, I Add a few things and it worked out pretty well.

The grateful I am Pablo, and to be honest I did not know the importance of this plane. The registered that made this important flight was the P-03. These versatile planes were severely mistreated by the storms in Antarctica, the P-01 and the P-04
were destroyed and were no longer found.The P-03 was damaged several times although it survived some being rebuilt, but in the last one the luck ran out and it was impossible to recover it.The color photo is just as it was destroyed, another in another previous accident, one on the day of the inaugural landing, one in Buenos Aires and the last one next to the Irizar icebreaker.

i love this plane.


But having seen them in the US Northwest, I thought they only came with floats, not wheels. Wheels look odd, don't they?

Thank you very much to all! The stories of so many machines in those days when technology was very scarce and to keep them working you had to improvise and resort to what they had at hand is fascinating. And that those men made a 1200 x 40 meter track only with pick and shovel is admirable.

And it's the other way around for me - I am used to them with wheels!

Never ever seen a float or ski version in the flesh!
