Cool Lavochkin La-150 1/33 scale

Fresh off my build of another first generation jet fighter plane, the Yak-23 Flora ( here is that build : Yak-23 Flora repaint by MacSongLi

I bring you the next soviet first generation jet fighter plane. This time it is the Lavochkin La-150.
Lavochkin La-150 1/33 scale-img_1723.jpg

Lavochkin was famous for his WW2 Soviet prop fighter plane the La 3, 5, 9, 11 etc..

after WW2, there was a fury of activity with developing jet powered aircraft. Some were a combination of Soviet planes with German jet engines ( like the Yak-15 ), and some were a further development of concept jets and prototypes that the Germans developed during the war ( what is refereed to as Luft 46 ).

Lavochkin with his La-150 went with a concept of planes of the Pod and Boom design. Those aircraft looked like Tadpoles from the side with the large forward and center fuselage and a thinner aft fuselage.

Of interest, the La-150 and some other resemble the German Me P1101 jet prototype built, but never flown . However, unlike the German jet, the La-150 was a low risk straight wing design.
Lavochkin La-150 1/33 scale-img_1729.jpg
Lavochkin La-150 1/33 scale-img_1730.jpg

As it turned out, those designs quickly gave way to swept wings designs and Lavochkin went for the La-15 shoulder mounted design that competed with the Mig-15. The Mig ultimately won the competition and Lavochkin attempted some more plane designs like the LA-200 Anaconda heavy interceptor, but that too was relegated to the pages of history rather quickly and thus the Lavochkin line of design all but disappeared.

Here is a bit more on this plane : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lavochkin_La-150

The model was purchased from Ecards last year before their site went down. The new site does not have this model up yet, so maybe this will be a reminder to Pavel to upload his nice designs.

This is a pavel Kohno ( mcboom ) X-Craft design in which he enlarged his previous 1/72 scale version. here is that thread : Lavochkin La-150 in scale 1:72

Exclamation The kit

here are a few pages from the kit.

It is computer generated and is nicely done. The coloring of this version ( Red 21 ) is overall grey blue ) that is rendered nicely, but could use alot more surface detail and panel shading ( but that's me ).

The graphics is crisp and the illustrations are very handy. The only thing is that he has a unique way of numbering the parts and I had to mark the views with which parts go where.

Should be a nice build.

Isaac,

Another very different aircraft. It' looks like a one of a kind colour too.

I do like your tip about numbering the parts on the 3 view. Great idea.

You're off to a good start. I'm looking forward to the rest of the build.

There are so many experimental and unusual airplanes to model. For me it is mostly first and second generation jets.

I have some more Soviet experimental planes to build as well as French.

For some reason, there are very few experimental US or British 1st gen jets models in 1/33 scale. Some here on our forum in smaller scale, but I need more detail in the models.

I have two well illustrated books ( X- Planes of Europe ) , so there are plenty of subjects to model.

Exclamation Aft fuselage

I decided to start from the back and go forward.

Here is the boom part of the fuselage
Lavochkin La-150 1/33 scale-img_1737.jpg

Lavochkin La-150 1/33 scale-img_1738.jpgLavochkin La-150 1/33 scale-img_1739.jpgLavochkin La-150 1/33 scale-img_1740.jpgLavochkin La-150 1/33 scale-img_1741.jpg

Here getting ready to attach to the rear center section
Lavochkin La-150 1/33 scale-img_1742.jpgLavochkin La-150 1/33 scale-img_1744.jpg
Lavochkin La-150 1/33 scale-img_1745.jpgLavochkin La-150 1/33 scale-img_1746.jpg

and attached to the center rear section that will connect to the boom part of the fuselage as well as the exhaust fairing.
Lavochkin La-150 1/33 scale-img_1747.jpgLavochkin La-150 1/33 scale-img_1749.jpg

My only concern is that the connection to the center rear is really a modified butt joint. I used CA instant glue for that.

The fit looks good Isaac. The tail boom is coming together quite nicely.

Thanks Gary. This is a unique looking plane, but a fun build so far.

Does not look like other folks viewing this build know much about it.

Exclamation Exhaust fairing

The engine ( a copy of the Jumo 004 ) was installed in the center fuselage under the wing. The exhaust was a short duct that extended just under the boom portion of the fuselage.
Lavochkin La-150 1/33 scale-img_1758.jpg

So here it is.
Lavochkin La-150 1/33 scale-img_1759.jpgLavochkin La-150 1/33 scale-img_1760.jpgLavochkin La-150 1/33 scale-img_1761.jpg

of interest is that the red star is printed on 3 separate parts and is not easy to align it and the parts.
Lavochkin La-150 1/33 scale-img_1762.jpgLavochkin La-150 1/33 scale-img_1763.jpg

A solution was to ask Gary to combine it all, print on a thin sheet and apply on top of the existing star.

Exclamation Center fuselage

The center consists of simple cylinders up to the cockpit open area going forward.

It also houses the landing gear bays. Those are very simple and in reality will not show since the main gear doors were closed on the ground and only small stub doors were open around the gear struts.
