Petals would have not been used on this simple part for sure. I built the radar dome from paper and it is OK. The best solution would have been to vacuform it. Isaac

Fuselage forward section
This section includes the very large "pre historic looking shark mouth".
Here are the external sections. Nothing too complicated yet. Gun ports are added here. Inlet framing is next. Isaac

Inlet frames
The inlet houses two separated ( bifurcated ) air ducts. The left side will feed the forward engine below and aft of the cockpit in the center fuselage and the right duct goes up a bit and to the right of the cockpit all the way back to the rear engine.
To achieve this, and provide the illusion of both air ducts going into the fuselage, there is a need for some structure. Here is the frame assembly multiple dry fits done into the forward fuselage skins. The framing will not be glued into the skins yet. It will be done when I add fuselage sections aft. going aft Here is a view of the gun port. Not one of my better ones, but could use a bit more dirtying .... Isaac

Air inlets
As stated before, there is a large bifurcated inlet in the nose section of the fuselage.
Here is the inner duct assembly made from the one piece. There are two separate ducts made up of a single piece. I just could not put it together and the graphics only shows the final result. I had to add some additional parts to close up the gaps I also added a dowel to the nose spliter to keep it round and also to support the radar dome. it is ready for fit, but do not glue it in place yet. add the cockpit sidewalls. The color of everything in this cockpit is all black. Not sure if it is correct ( certainly unusual for a Soviet jet ), or is lack of information by the designer. Now glue the inlet assembly. Kind of difficult, but doable. Isaac

Isaac,
A very unique front fuselage. You make that complex shape look easy. You did use a wooden dowel on the front of the fuselage (just not where I thought that you would). Nice work, Gary

Cockpit tub
The tub is simple and flimsy and can now be inserted thru the opening.
The fit is so so and there was interference with the air ducts, so just modify as needed. Since it is all monochromatic dark, there is no way to tell anyhow. Isaac

Nose gear bay
Here is the housing for the nose gear. I added a strip of extra card stock on the sides and top for extra support.
and status of the entire nose section so far. Isaac

Looking good. The off center position of the cockpit gives this bird a strange appearance.

You're doing a great job Isaac. That kit definitely wouldn't be for the faint of heart.
