Curtiss SOC 1/48

Iíve been thinking about this plane for awhile, was such a good early design for itís purpose. I have Nobiís 1/100 and was looking at upsizing this one. Will it work? Well that remains to be seen. I was hoping to design a float similar to the duck hull and have redrawn most of the model but not entirely.

A historic and good-looking airplane, Glen. Nobi's model ought to scale up well.

Hi Don , thanks there are some issues with resizing, as some areas that would not be noticed at the smaller scale need alteration or redesign as well as the redrawing of the lines. It is fun to do though so am having some fun. On the fuse the flat area forward of the windscreen is really needed and trying to get the nose shape and flattened turtledeck were considerations.

Well not a lot of change as Iíve been working on the float design, here is the updated float only one more thing to figure out but could start building the model. This plane has really interesting features the turtledeck could be lowered by the gunner to allow the browning room to use, Handly Paige wing slats, water rudder on the float was fairly new when initially designed... cool plane to learn about.

Basic simple cockpit details nothing too fancy but want the front canopy to be open. Still not sure how Iím going to do the lower wing roots they come off the fuse at a downward angle then are parallel with the top wing. Will probably ďwing it ď

Yes, looking good. That lower wing structure looks sorta complicated. Be fun to see how it works out.

Looks terrific, Glen! One of the best-looking biplane floatplanes ever in my opinion.
