Cool Yak-140 MaksArt repaint by Gary

Here is another of the experimental aircraft that I am building. This one is the Soviet Yakovlev Yak-140 jet plane.

Yak-140 MaksArt repaint by Gary-yak-140.jpg

The model is originally designed by our member MaksArt. He has shared his many models on Google drive. The original version can be downloaded here:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rGd...g8iHgIg5q/view

However, I found that the rendering could be improved. So I am collaborating as a "technical advisor " to Gary ( MacSongLi ) who has done a super job on previous models we worked on before.

This build is considered a sort of a Beta build for the repaint since there are some areas that needed correction. But enlarge, this is a brilliant repaint.

More info soon

Another "new to me" jet

Interesting lines.Marriage of Yak-25 and Su-7 wings but with one engine like Mig-21.

Prototype jets can be fun .Thanks for bringing this one up.

Of interest, this 1950's vintage prototype jet never flew. The program was terminated in favor of Migs and Suchoi designs. However, you can see pieces of the design making their way to the next generation jets. The bicycle landing gear configuration made it to the Yak 25 thru Yak 28 family. The wings also similar to the Suchoi 7 and I am sure more.

I started the build while on a trip to Florida last month. I have a travel trailer that I tow.

Exclamation Fuselage parts

Here are the repainted fuselage parts and center frames

Simple circular cross sections. The center frame will be an issue later on.

Isaac,

Great start on the fuselage. I love the work bench, it even has a window.

Cool Nose section

Start at the nose. Simple cones and there is a bullet section inserted ( for a future radar ).

Exclamation Center section

The center section is a long cylindrical tube with an inner framing/core to support the wings.

The frame however is flimsy and needed additional material like wood strips and gussets to stiffen it up.

here are the mating parts ( landing gear bays and cockpit tub; those are added later ).

bottom view of forward landing gear bay cutout. There is an error as the doors are not rounded in the front ( like a mig-21 ). It will be corrected by Gary later on.
Yak-140 MaksArt repaint by Gary-img_2368.jpg

rear landing gear bay cutout. It's OK.
Yak-140 MaksArt repaint by Gary-img_2369.jpg

Notice that this aircraft has a bicycle landing gear arrangement like the B-47, U2, and later Yak series fighters. The reason for that is that in the early days of relatively low engine thrust, a thin wing was a way to reduce drag. Since the conventional way was to place the gears in the wing, the bicycle arrangement allowed for the thinnest possible wing to be installed. later on as engines became more powerful, the bicycle arrangement went by the way of the dinosaurs.

now insert ( no glue ) the frame from the rear and push it so it is flush with the rear ( minus the glue tab ). Use wood sticks to align the wing support cutout. Again, do not glue. It is tight enough,'
