My 1/72 Scale Planes, 3rd Part

So much paper planes done! Twenty so far.
Three I gave as a gift, seventeen still in boxes (except when I feel the need of assemble my own airport)

The first Thread covers my first ten planes, the second part http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/a...s-2nd-part.htm covers the next ten ones, and this thread is going to cover... yes, ten planes more.
My 21th plane was supposed to be a P-38 or an U-2, both already printed. But I decided to print a cessna 172 from paper-replika.com and rescale it to 1/72.

And I'm making the model of a Supermarine Stranraer. So far, just parts of the squeleton are done. I'm planing to finish and publish the model, but if somebody wants to jump forward, I made some rules: a) the model must be free, b) the model must be at least at 1:72 scale, c) the model must say that I was the original designer, and d) I'll like to know when somebody makes some change to the model to be able to download it.

So this thread starts with three and half printed planes, and not a cut done.

And.. I started the P-38. I was feeling warlike.
The problem is... I already have a plastic P-38, from a very bad brand (I didn't know) and I was going to make in paper the metalic plane depicted in the book.
But, I'm makin the Stranraer and the Stranraer has its undersides aluminium.
Quarantine and living in Venezuela, I have enought paint to make one or another, not both.
So, the P-38 is going to be olive and gray. I was thinking about the Porky II, a well know and depicted plane, but... I want invasion bands.
Meaning that my paper model is going to be the P-38J-10-LO Scat II from the 434th FS, 479th FG, 8th AF, USAF.
And because this afternoon enjoyed another blackout, I started to cut the parts.
There is a small difference between the plastic and paper model, about 2% so far. I hope there is not bigger when I finish.
The Stranraer... welll I've been busy. Soon it will advance.

A bit of the P-38, a bit of the Stranraer.

1st, the Stranraer. All the fuselage ribs are made. Im planing to include one or two sets of fuselage spars, all in the first sheet of parts, and print it. If everything ok, then I'll start the second sheet. This one would include the fuselage skin. and maybe the tail, depending of the space.

2nd, the Lightning. I started the assembly. It's almost obligatory to assemble first the main wing spar and the piece 5. But the main spar is too small. The internal reinforcements sheet is 5% too small. I supouse that I made a mistake rescaling, but with the quarantine, I don't have the originals at hand. Anyway, the only important part is the main spar, the rest can be corrected just cutting the parts with a small black border.

The plastic parts in the picture are two fuel tanks. Checking Wikipedia, Robin Olds made escort and bombing missions, so maybe I'll install two bombs instead of the fuel tanks.

I have always liked the P-38. It is a favorite for me. I hope once you finish you are going to offer it here or on Ecard models....There are so many potential schemes out there. One I am still looking for is the Assam Dragons scheme for Emil Slugga's P-38...

OK, my bad. The pilot of the P-38 I referred to was Max Glenn. His AC was Sluggo with Roman numerals after it.TheoneI saw was Sluggo III.

To publish this plane would be a little difficult acounting that I printed the parts in black and white, and I'm using paint to finish it.
Anyway, the wing spar. The original one is displayed in the middle, the remade is displayed on top, and the subsection 5 of the fuselage is in the bottom.
The second and third picture displays the spar-section 5-ribs and reinforcements finished. It's not difficult, it just must be done with a bit of patience.
Usually I reinforce the wing with cardboard, but this time this internal structure prevent this and I'm going to experiment with just a double layer of paper as the wings skin.

That's the worst part of being a detail-oriented person. Once I assembled the wings, or at least the first test of them, I took a ruler and measured the wings.
The plastic model wings are 21.8cm point to point. My paper model is 22.3cm, so 5% of difference, too much. But the real plane has a width of 15.85m, meaning 22.01cm. An a difference of just 1% is fine, I like it. It's funny that the plastic model has the same difference, but as I said, it's from a bad brand.
Anyway, I'll keep assembling the Lightning.
And yes, the Stranraer is in stand-by for the moment, sorry.
