Trident II Answer model in 1/33-original build
I always had a fascination with this airplane ever since I built a plastic model of it when I was a young child ( I think it was a Heller in 1/100 scale ). Looked super cool.
This build is of the original booklet I purchased from Poland company Answer. There have been numerous builds of this exact model such as: SNCASO SO.9000 Trident / Answer / 1:33 or TRIDENT de ANSWER au 1/33 and many more on other forums. https://www.kartonbau.de/forum/thema...threadID=25555 https://www.kartonbau.de/forum/thema...l=2#post410689 and in 1:50 scale: Sud- Ouest 9050 Trident & NORD GRIFFON 1500-2 However, this build is a familiarization build for an up coming repaint by Gary ( MacSongLi ) The reason for the repaint is two fold. 1- the original Answer version is a boring monochromatic grayish looking model with no panel lines, no external detail ( other than the poor excuse for the air brakes on top ). 2- I got the impression that us "minions" are getting kind of bored with my series of Soviet experimental jets ( No Russian collusion here ). So how about some western experimental jets? Ones I am done with the original version, I will launch the repainted one later on. lastly, on the technical aspect, the model is of the SNCASO 9050 and not the 9000 as stated on the cover page. For those that tend to look for the visual differences, look at the landing gear. The 9000 was short legged while the 9050 had much taller landing gear to accommodate the missile under the fuselage. Pics soon. Isaac

The plane
This is a mix powered aircraft designed primarily as a point interceptor ( if it would have gone to production ).
It has a set of rocket motors in the aft fuselage ( like the German Me-163 Komet ) as well as turbojets mounted in pods on the stubby wing tips. Speed was of the essence for this interceptor which is why the rocket engines were installed ( jet engines in the 1950's were still anemic ). This plane would have carried a single missile under its belly. The interest to me is the elegant smooth lines and all round fuselage and engine nacelles. It is slick and still looks futuristic today. Some reference here: S.N.C.A.S.O SO-9000 Trident and SO-9050 Trident II | Let Let Let - Warplanes https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SNCASO_Trident Isaac

WHM or Möwe Verlag also prints the Trident on 1/50 scale Catalog Number 1631. Just for information, the model is still available from the publisher Papermodels, Cardmodels, Wilhelmshavener Modellbaubogen, Bastelbogen, Kartonmodellbau, Kartonmodelle, Architektur, Schiffe, Flugzeuge

The kit
Here are a few pics of the model. It appears to have been computer generated ( at least the graphics instructions views ). The fit of parts is also spot on.
Very easy to follow and build. It is all circular cross sections, so placing the formers does not require an orientation. I just don't understand why not go that extra effort and come up with a better graphics for the model. Hopefully we can make it better. Isaac

Very interesting and unusual topic, and yes, I am old and remember the Heller 1/100 model!

Glue tabs
This model was designed using a butt joining method in which each fuselage section is built with a front and a back frame and those are then butt joined ( glued ) to the section in back of them.
While it sounds like a simple task, often it is not a clean transition ( after all you are working in paper and not machined metal precision cut parts ). So I decided to add glue tabs to each part ( except the extreme nose cone and the last aft section ). This is a more common method and often leads to better results ( but the choice is yours ). Here are the parts: and a close up of some Isaac

Fuselage parts
The center fuselage section will house the main landing gear bay. It makes sense to cut the doors now as it would be difficult to perform a clean cut when assembled.
Here are all the cylinders and conical sections ready to join Isaac

Aft fuselage
Started with the back going forward.
Soak the fins frame in CA glue to give it stiffness aft section frame in place and glued sandwich it add sections going forward. Note: I decided not to build the speed brakes. They are really small and there is no detail to them. Isaac
