To pick up on Golden Bear's suggestion, the bubble portion of the hood looks like it could be approximated by the shrink-wrap packaging used on Christmas tree lights (the good-old-fashioned, big catch-the-tree-branch-afire kind). If you want to be secular, I would think a night-light bulb or one of the chandelier-type light bulbs might give you about the right size/shape section for the Malcom portion of the hood. Wouldn't be the first time a modeller made a purchase for the wrapping, not the product.

Birder - Making canopies, especially by vacumolding, isn't something that looks fun or interesting to me. I understand people who do enjoy it, but I'm just not one. That's why I'll buy pre-made when available or look for substitutes when necessary. (Obviously on things like the BF109 when they are straight pieces of plastic, substituting is very easy.)

Darwin - very good ideas that I hadn't thought of.

Now - the next one will be coming up with the rear 'bubble' for a P61 for when I get around to building the Gremir kit...

Dan -- You're going to build the Gremir P-61? That's good news. I really look forward to that build! Don B.

Yeah - I'm not sure when - but it's near the top. I am going to obviously finish the BF109 and build one or 2 of the Halinski's on the stack first - but it'll come after that.

that's cool, it may be impatience on my part anyway, but I'm a tinkerer and putterer by nature. I'm thinking about woodturning wheels.....maybe

Now, I turned stacked paper wheels for the Gee Bee Racer and have formed and coated with superglue the wheels for my current BF109 - just have to screw them onto the dremel (I picked up the part for turning wooden wheels for pinewood derby cars to allow thicker stacks to be turned).
I did purchase wooden 'pre-formed' wheels for the BF-109T - but after I got them, I won't buy any again as I don't see them being an improvement over what I can do.

And Don, yes the Wahlfisch has not been forgotten, although I've been assembly-lining exhaust bits for the BF109 this week, so I haven't done anything further to it.

It looks like a Corsair

On this date 74 years ago, 30 May 1940, the first flight of the Vought F4U Corsair took place.

An alternative option is to look into vacu form canopies for 1/32 scale plastic kits. There already shaped and ready to attach.

I know this is a very old thread and old question, but its a good point.

British Mustangs = Mark I, II, III, IV

American Mustang = P-51A, B, C, D

Get it?

So a P-51C was produced for the United Kingdom as a Mustang Mk.III
A P-51D (bubble top) would be a Mustang Mk. IV
