Number 4 - Boeing Model 256

The acquisition of these planes by the Getúlio Vargas government represented a leap in quality for Naval Aviation and Av. Militar, as they were purchased for the 1932 conflict against the revolting Paulistas. (Constituncionalist Revolt of 1932)

During this civil war, the incapacity of our armed forces in aerial combat became apparent, operating with inadequate or obsolete types (such as the Vought O2U Corsair fighter vector from Naval Aviation or the Nieuport Delage NiD-72C-1 from Aviação Militar) , considering the Navy's loyalty to the government during the 1932 revolution, the Getúlio Vargas president management bought a lot of Model 256 directly from the Boeing factory (identical to the US Navy's Boeing F4B4, the latest production version). The acquisition of these planes was justified by the Constituncionalist Revolution and the development of events between Bolivia and Paraguay that culminated in the Chaco War.

Luckily for the rebels, these planes did not arrive in time to participate in the conflict, being subsequently divided between Naval Aviation and Army Aviation, generating a rift between the two forces that still exists today with the "heiress" FAB. Thus, of the 14 copies ordered in the USA, eight went to the Army and the others to Av. Naval. These machines were registered in the Navy from C1B-33 to C1B-38, and the designation in the Navy of the type was C1B (C = Fighter 1 = 1st model B = Boeing), the Navy F4B4 were all based at the Galeão Air Base from 1932 to 1941. Except for a few months in 1932/33 when they were based in Ladário patrolling the border of Brazil and Paraguay due to the Chaco War.

Thanks to the acrobatic skills of the F4B4, the Brazilianm Navy set up a small air demonstration squadron. Equipped with three aircraft, piloted by Capt. Corvette Djalma Fontes Cordovil Petit, Captain-Lieutenant Lauro Oriano Menescal and Captain-Lieutenant José Kalh Filho. This flight soon drew attention for the maneuvers carried out, and in some cases the planes were attached by ropes !!!

The squadron flight gained public notoriety with tours in Argentina and Uruguay, and in the first country the impact of the presentations was so overwhelming, that the Argentine congress approved the modernization plan
of the Air Force of the Argentine Army and the Navy of that country. The "squadron" also escorted President Vargas' Lockheed L-12 Electra on his travels, is one of first top government leaders to use in full scale the aviation of full way of transportation, as well as the great Graff Zeppelin airship upon his arrival in the Rio de Janeiro in 1937. The remaining two aircraft of the Navy were passed to the FAB in 1941.

The model is from Der Kampfflieger and reduced from 1/72 to 1/100, Roman make a Brazilian Navy version on the set. Brazil and Thailand is uniques foreing customers fo P-12/F4B family. I Build this model in 2012...

It's the first time I'm visiting this thread and I already like it! Great idea for something like this, not only great models but also some educational value. From my own experience I know that it's often hard to find the detailed information on Latin America planes or vehicles if you don't know Spanish/Portuguese.
Thanks a lot for your effort, Pericles! I really appreciate it.

Thank's Kacper

I hope feed this thread with regularity. In fact the aviation history on my country is very rich. I like a lot the first period by the brazilian military historians called age of fly (1913 - 1941).

Cool Number 5 - Cessna T-37C Tweet

My friends! I build this excellent Stalhart model in last year, but is time to show a detailed history.

The Minister of Aeronautics asked the Air Force Staff - EMAer (Estado Maior da Aeronáutica), in the mid-60s, to study an aircraft, preferably the reaction, to replace the veterans and already outdated North American T-6 in basic and advanced instruction cadets of the then Aeronautical School - EAer. (Escola de Aeronáutica)

After analyzing and studying numerous types, available at the time, the Cessna T-37C was the aircraft that met the largest number of requirements determined by EMAer, just as Cessna was the company that provided the most attractive forms of payment, being then chosen as the new basic and advanced FAB trainer.

The number of new aircraft purchased directly from the factory was 40 units, which received registration plates from FAB 0870 to FAB 0909 and the military designation T-37C. Immediately, a FAB Inspection and Receiving Commission was created at Cessna (Comissão de Fiscalização e Recebimento da FAB na Cessna) - COMFIREM-CESSNA, in the city of Wichita, which coordinated the manufacture, the transfer of maintenance technology to our technicians, the training of the first FAB pilots - who would carry out the flight transfer of the planes to Brazil - as well as receiving the aircraft.

The first units started to arrive in the city of Pirassununga, in the interior of São Paulo State, headquarters of the Detachment Precursor of the School of Aeronautics - (Destacamento Precursor da Escola de Aeronáutica) DPEAer, in mid-1967, in flight transfer, by pilots of EAer, in squadrons constituted with four or five aircraft, always accompanied by a Fairchild C-119G support aircraft.

The years 1967 and 1968 were used to complete the arrival of all 40 aircraft purchased, train the new flight instructors, prepare the maintenance system, as well as all the manuals and procedures necessary for the instruction flight, and on the 9th September 1968, the first cadet instruction flight was performed on the Cessna T-37C in Brazil.

With the creation of the Military Pilots Training Center (Centro de Formação de Pilotos Miitares) - CFPM, in the city of Natal, RN, in 1970, the FAB opted for the purchase of another 25 aircraft, of the same type, to equip the new Unit, which were registered from FAB 0910 to FAB 0934.

The CFPM would have the responsibility of giving, in one year, practically all the primary, basic and advanced flight instruction to the first year cadets, selecting them as military pilots, who would then proceed to the Air Force Academy (Academia da Força Aérea) - AFA - new name of the School of Aeronautics, since July 10, 1969 - where they would only make maintenance flights, as the entire flight selection would have already been carried out at CFPM.

This system had an ephemeral duration, since in 1973 all T-37Cs were concentrated in the AFA, where they remained as the standard trainer until 1978, when, for a series of reasons, such as high operational cost, lack of spare parts and fatigue of the material, had to be replaced by NEIVA Universal T-25, in the advanced stage, until the arrival of the EMB.312 Tucano T-27, in 1983.

The major overhaul called the IRAN (Inspection and Repair As Necessary) of the T-37C was carried out at the Parque de Material Aeronáutico de São Paulo - PAMASP, located in Campo de Marte, SP, which acquired great experience in maintaining the type of aircraft.

Finally, all the aircraft were concentrated in Campo de Marte, in São Paulo, in the late 1980s, when they began to be prepared for a possible placement in international competition for sale. The Material Directorate Bulletin - DIRMA (Diretoria de Matereial Aeronáutico) No. 028, dated October 20, 1981, records the FAB collection of 42 Cessna T-37C aircraft, remaining from the old fleet of 65 aircraft, received in 1967 and 1970.

Completing the process, the FAB offered 42 Cessna T-37C aircraft for sale in 1981, which were stored in PAMASP. Countless countries appeared interested in acquiring such planes as Chile, Uruguay and even the United States. However, it was South Korea that presented the best offer and ended up acquiring the entire batch of aircraft that were delivered in March 1982.

My Stahlhart model represent a a AFA machine in end of operational life in 1978.
