Thanks for all the input, folks. I'll keep researching to see what I do. Right now, it's onward and upward on the rest of the fillet!

Wish me luck.

Well...here is one fillet done. Not perfect, but not too shabby either. I figure they could have been dinged up a bit anyway so any slight foibles aren't the end of the world. The front tiny fillet really impresses as it sweeps around the leading edge and really snuggles up to the nose with many tiny relief cuts. Then too, my "G" and "A" did in fact line up well. Who'd have thunk it? My biggest error was not preforming the fillet just under the cockpit area quite enough so now there is a slight "flat" part to it. I also thinned the edges again and as I added glue and coaxed it around the curve, I had a bit of paper disintegration! Still...one of my better fillets so I'm pleased. We'll see how the other side goes.

I also looked around and found some pictures of the real machines (I think, this very plane) and while the roundel isn't cut off like it is on the kit from these pictures, there is at least some definite overspray of the light stone over the left quarter of the roundel. The picture that shows that the best is, I think, from a different Mk of this plane but you get the idea. Long story short, I'm leaving it as is. Looks fine to me and very "out in the field-ish".

Thanks again for all the input.

Dan

A well placed fillet is a joy to watch, and this one looks very fine to me! I was wondering if the RAF used this plane during the desert operations in North Africa. Two years ago I built Orlik's Hawker Hurricane, with the same camo colors, which was used as a tank buster against the German Afrika Korps. The buildthread is on this site.

Having said that, the fillets were tricky because of their concave and convex shape (especially towards the leading edge of the wing). You easily spoil the paper. Good luck with the other one Dan, no doubt you will pull it off!

Cheers,
Erik

To my eye, that fillet is outstanding. Wing fairings and fillets have always been the hardest thing for me to do on airplanes.

This is such a beautiful model!

Thanks so much Erik, Mike, Don, RM, Darth and Bob!

Very slow progress but progress none the less...got the other fillet on. Again, not perfect but I'll take it. It was again pleasing to see everything match up very well. I'll say it again...these Halinski kits make you look pretty darn good.

I may do the ailerons or the flaps or start the wheels or the spinner next. Not sure but you'll be the first to know.

Cheers,
Dan

In my book, that fillet counts as perfect.
