Canopy vacuforming
Here is the process for vacuforming.
I used a 0.010 inches thick clear plastic from K&S ( I am not really happy with this product as it is not clear enough after vacuforming, but have no alternative at this time ). finished product Isaac

initial fit
cut the canopy a bit larger and trial fit to opening.
As can be seen, the width is close, but the shape is not identical and there is no material to glue it on. Now trim the plastic to the frames. Here is the opening again. Next is the "plastic surgery" modification. Isaac

Isaac,
It's too bad that canopy didn't fit better. You did a beautiful job on the vacuform and adding the frames. Looking forward to your plastic surgery. Gary

Fitting the canopy
I repainted the inner cutout of the cockpit in the two fuselage sections . I then printed those parts on both thin paper and also card stock.
Here is the comparison of the cockpit opening to the canopy. As can be seen there is a difference. I then cut out a narrower inner section out to form a "shelf" for the canopy attachment added inner section to stiffen the "shelf" then glued on the thin paper section on top to match the fuselage and the new cutout. Now glue the canopy in place. Note, I left the original cutout lines. and I added the radio antenna and mast. This concludes the build of this concept jet that never was. Isaac

Very nice finish, Isaac. And kudos on that canopy too!
Odd but cool plane all the same. Dan |

Thank you very much for sharing the complete process. One of the beauties of paper modeling is that you can do it again, and slightly larger. Try that in pl----c or re--n.
It also gives you the reassurance that you can do it again and better! Truly outstanding model! |
