Cool Dassault Mystère 2c, Model-Kom 1/33 scale

My next project is this interim French fighter from the 50's.

Dassault Mystère

The Mystère 2 was a follow on to the Dassault Ouragan. It retained many features, but had swept back wings. About 150 units were built and operated with the French air force. However, it had performance shortfalls and Dassault already had the Mystère 4 variant being tested.

FYI, the name Mystère is not a misspelling. It is the French spelling for mystery.

The kit is a printed version by Model-Kom on a nice metallic looking silver finish. It appears to be a cleaned up version of the original design from a designer that goes by Fitter.

More soon.

Exclamation Kit and accessories

As stated, this is a repaint and a print of a design by Fitter. The improvement is in the print shop work with the silver finish. Otherwise there is no difference and no further improvement to his design.

I found two build logs for this model. One is a build by Yair of a reduced 1/48 scale of the Fitter file, and the other is a superb build of the print shop version I found on a Polish site ( can't recall it now ).

Here are some pages from the Model-Kom printed version I purchased
-img_3500.jpg-img_3503.jpg-img_3504.jpg

The instruction figures are minimal, but are sufficient for the average builder since it is a relatively straight forward build ( except the wing butt joints ).
-img_3505.jpg-img_3506.jpg

I also purchased the vacuformed canopy of the Mystre 4 which is similar to this 2c version. Also resin wheels.

Exclamation Fuselage forward section

This airplane fuselage is all round sections. So that should be easy to build.

Here are the parts.
-img_3507.jpg

My modification is to add join strips primarily because I hate butt joints since they never match for me.

parts are rolled and formed.
-img_3508.jpg-img_3509.jpg

here is the nose section containing the engine inlet.
-img_3510.jpg

The inlet is bifurcated ( split ) in order to bypass the nose gear housing and cockpit.
-img_3511.jpg

assemble the next section aft.

Forward fuselage continued

next is the cut out for the nose gear bay and the bay itself.
-img_3516.jpg

Add weights at this point or else you will have a tail seater.
-img_3518.jpg

inside view. I added additional pieces of wood to support the nose gear strut later on.
-img_3524.jpg

Nose section is done ( to the cockpit ).

Great start on the fuselage, Isaac. Totally agree, butt-joints just don't seem to go together as well as using joiner strips.

More coming soon.

I am a bit distracted with my big RC boats now ( 48 inches or 122 cm long ). Great fun

It's not mystre, it's "le mystère" en Français ;-)

My bad spelling. Should be "Mystère".

However, the meaning is the same. It means mystery.

Thanks for the correction
