We as builders need to demand better designs. Especially today with computers doing the layout of a 3D surface.

Back in the "old" days, there were few options. Today we can do better.

It is totally appropriate and criticize designers if there are options or we can offer alternative solutions.

As an addition, vacuforming those shapes is an options as well ( and it can be offered commercially just like canopies ).

I modified the GPM Yak-25M radar nose from petals to vacuform.

At least painting is simple since it was all one color ( consider it for a remake of your Su-24 you built along time ago if you were to build it again ).

I hope this side conversation regarding petal design is useful for your build and those that will follow.

Looking forward to your continued work

You proved my point.

Great technique, hats off to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but as I said, that was old and now is the time for a new way to represent 3D curved surfaces.

An interesting discussion on petal part design. Personly I hate it.

More progres with the model - wings and horizonta tail are assembled.

Next step are the leading edge plaps.

Thanks Asaf. I totaly agree with you. More advance with the model-

I didn't like the instrument panel shroud provided by GMP (first picture), so I changed it to a new one.

Next, the outboard leading edge flaps should be bonded on top the wing leading edge, per GPM.

I took a risk and changed it by cutting part of the leading edge (top and bottom) and bonding the flap with tabs.

Result looks good, hope next wing will be as good.

I noted another error in the design of this model. Look at the flaps. The inner section close to the fuselage is marked so close that if it was real, there is no way to lower them as they would clash with the fuselage body.

Just a nit, nothing major.

I do like the coloration and shading this model has. It was one of the early attempts to move away from plain colored schemes .
