Building tha A-7D Corsair II by GPM

Starting building the A-7D from GPM in parallel to scratche building the Vampire.
The A-7 started it's operational history in USN in Vietnam from 1967, adopted also by USAF, and retired from service in the 80's.

The model is a 1-33 scale from GPM. One thing that I was suprised, are the very few instruction drawings, and the small size of them. The model aircraft is the wing comander aircraft of the 355 TFW

Fuselage originaly is with butt joint, but I changed it to tabs.

The wing's beams, I prefeard bonding the two halfes and than insert them in the cut-outs. This way I can better control the wings angle to be symetrical. Beams are connected by plates to stabilize them.

Yes, indeed, good start Mor. The nose will be a challenge I think? Good luck with your build!

Thanks Eric. Planing to re-design the nose, don't like what GPM is offering.

I modified the nose by filling it all in plaster and sanding round.

That's indeed the way to go if the petals are too big. GPM could have done better.... as if the number of petals is sufficient, the result really can be good. I'm still very satisfied with Orlik's Mosquito nose, for instance .

Keep up the good work, Mor!

Exclamation

Erik

I still think that the mosquito nose could have been done using conventional cones instead of petals. The designers are just used to petals, so they continue with it.

Have you seen the nose of the Fly model Suchoi Su-24 nose? It's a horror show of a design. Petals all over. Even though the builder did a superb job on the model, it is still wrong.
