Inlet section
First a technical term :
The Mig-17 uses what is called a bifurcated or split inlet. Another words, there is one circular inlet in the nose that is immediately separated into a left and a right air duct for the centrifugal flow compressor jet engine in the center fuselage. The reason the inlet is bifurcated is to place the nose gear and the cockpit in between the air ducts. This was common for mostly early jet engines having a centrifugal compressor that did not care much about smooth airflow to the inlet. The model struggles in assembling such a splitter primarily because the splitter itself is a 3D surface that is rendered here in 2D. The assembly technique I used was to assemble the inlet in pieces while in the nose. The result was less than desirable. here are the parts insert a frame for the two ducts to go thru install the ducts notice the nose gear bay inserted from the inside glue the splitter ( not the best of fits. insert nose weights to prevent a tail seater. add more sections going aft lastly, I added pieces of wood to better support the nose gear strut. Thank you for the detailed instructions, and the detailed photos. The air intake splitter definitely isn't as easy as you make it look. Excellent result, Isaac.

Aft fuselage
Start from the rear and go forward
add the frame including support for vertical fin here is the exhaust duct insert into place continue forward exhaust in place. A technical note : The Mig-17 had an afterburner ( or Reheat in British English ). This was an improvement over the Mig-15 which had a straight exhaust. An afterburner is a simple devise inserted in the exhaust duct of a jet engine that introduces added fuel vapor which is ignited again and when lit, the exhaust gasses expand rapidly aft and produce an apposing thrust of an added 30-50% more thrust for short duration ( usually take off when heavy, or escape during combat ) There is also the addition of an exhaust variable area devise such as petals . In some circles the afterburner is also called an "augmenter". Isaac

Aft end
The sections for the aft end continue till the middle section
here are all the fuselage segments aft end with the wing spars inserted ( this will be beefed up later on ). Isaac
