I've played with a few such as yours before and glued them directly together edge to edge. Usually I work with 1:33 so getting my fingers in there is a bit easier. I've also
printed off a smaller version of the bottom piece on 20lb paper. A reduction of 2-3% usually did it. Glue that onto a piece of 1mm or .5mm and then attach that to your bottom piece using the raised card as your gluing surface. It takes a bit of eyeballing to get it on properly but using a glue stick will let you slide it a bit when you put it down. At any rate, I always found it easier to directly glue it
