Thanks so much, Don. I'm glad you are liking it. This is my first GPM kit and it won't be my last. It has close to Halinski-like fit and look with slightly less detail/structure. It would be a really good stepping stone for an all-out Halinski build, if you are game. And you'd finish it since you have a passion for the subject. Just a thought!
I started the cowling tonight and only added end tabs on the various rings. Fit is really nice and I only need an air scoop and the last two butt-joined thin rings. I have fitted it to the front and it will look nice and only need a bit of trimming to get over the leading edge of the wheel well area. My messing up there no doubt! More soon...Dan |

Great work of art, Dan. Haven't been checking in for a while but you made a fine model out of this one. The forward placement of the horizontal stabilizers in relation to the tail fin is remarkable. I wonder what the reason for that would have been. Improved maneuverability?

Thanks, Erik! I don't know why that stab is so far forward. It's dang small too. I get the impression that this machine may not have been too darn stable. In any event, it sure looks cool.
Well...I had to do a few mods on the engine because I was a doofus. Not really! The trouble was that the cowling rings went together so well that I suddenly realized I shouldn't have put so many rings on and my engine would NEVER fit through the front opening! Do'h! The directions are kind of hard to follow too in that there are multiple ways to build various parts such as a simple flat engine vs. the 3-D unit. I added nice formers into the cowling and that was a mistake too. Probably made for the flat engine install. So I should have just made the cowling a shell and then it could have been carefully placed over the finished engine. Now what? I decided that I didn't want to just use the flat engine but I didn't want to cut up my nice cowling so I compromised...I made the engine, but left off some of the top parts of the cylinders that represent the rocker arm covers (I think). That way, the engine basically looks nice and busy and 3-D but really isn't complete. The cylinder tops will be hidden by the rest of the front cowling as it continues to slope in. I have two more rings to go. I also need to add my push rods too! Cheating, I know...but I figured this was my best option. Next time I won't paint myself into a corner...it sure looks sleek with that cowling on too! Thanks for looking and for those in the US...Happy Thanksgiving! Dan |

Not cheating Dan. Makes complete sense to leave out the rocker arm covers. There is still a lot of detailing on the engine, and it looks great. Nice job.

Thanks, Gary, Don and Erik! I'm really liking this model. I've always liked the plane and almost got the Hasegawa 1/32nd model of the same, but I'm glad I have this one instead. Pretty darn satisfying.
Tonight I added a leading edge wing root fillet, some stretched sprue push rods, top and bottom cowling scoops and the exhausts. OH! And finished the last couple of front cowl rings. Really all it needs are a couple of details, the landing gear and making a vacuform canopy. It'll be done soon. Now I need a similar Hellcat to go with it! More soon...Dan |

Thanks, Bob. Again...it's a kit that makes you look pretty darn good. The rendering and the cool faded tropical paint scheme really help too.
Today I got the main oleo struts, wheels and tail wheel all finished and installed. Looks nice sitting on its own legs. Some more details, some more wheel well things (a couple more doors) and the gun sight and canopy! Done pretty soon... Cheers, Dan |

Good work Dan. Homemade canopy it will be, vacuumed and the whole works?
