P-35 From Modelik 1/33rd

All,
Here is one I've started that I just got from Greg Perry. I realized that I really have not built a paper model yet as all of mine have been modern CAD and computer colored. This little guy is hand drawn and harkens back to the "happy times". It's going together well, though, with a little trimming here and there. Most of the formers seem a bit small and so I've been making the skins a tad smaller. Maybe I should be going the other way! But It looks nice so far. Only deviations besides my trimming has been joining the cylinder parts with a separate tab rather than an integral tab as drawn. This way, I think the skin looks smoother. I also used some markers to shade the interior a bit as it's just black ink on a green background. I also put a picture of the appropriate Pratt and Whitney in the cowl opening as that was just a black abyss on the model. From what I've read, there may be a nasty surprise when I try to add the wings etc. but for now, I'm having a good time. If it does get finished, I'll finally say I'm a paper modeler too!

Cheers and thanks for looking,
Dan

Looks pretty fine from here. Convincing metallic look too. Hope it goes well to completion.

Great choice, Dan!

I have a strong affection for this aircraft. I have always liked the look of it (the definition of "modern" in 1940 to my eye).

In the 1970s, I served in Korea with Swedish Flygvapnet Colonel Klerren Nilsson who flew the export version (EP-106/Swedish J.9) with Flygflottilj 8 from Barkarby air field in Sweden on neutrality patrols in 1940. He was interesting person. We talked a lot about airplanes, and maintained a correspondence until he passed away. In 1991, Lil and I visited him and his wife in Sweden. Lots of stories (For a time, he was known as "Airscrew Nils" when the propeller came off his Gloster Gladiator in flight; he was one of the first Swedish pilots to fly the P-51 Mustang [Swedish J.26]; etc., etc.)

Thumbs up

Nice to see this old model built again. I did mine about 20 or so years ago. I gave it away a few years ago during one of the model events.

Also, there is a nice example at the US Air Force museum in Dayton Ohio

Dan,

No need to make a canopy for this one (and 3 others you got from me)

Bunch of misc stuff arrived today to add to rjm estate sale.

These 4 canopies will be an Xmas prezzie to you....

The state of play tonight. A former or two gave me pause, but I wrestled them into place...I think. I also needed to paint the area behind the cockpit as it will be open with my clear canopy. Some touch up, but tomorrow will be the stab with drooped elevators to add some animation and then it's on to the dreaded wings!

Sure is pretty with that colorful rudder in place.

Cheers,
Dan
