DGA Piper J3 Cub and L-4 Collection in 1/100 scale.
I'm starting a new long-term project: building several versions of the Piper J-3/L-4 designed by Jim Gausman for the DGA, noting that several versions are already available for purchase at Ecardmodels.com. The original scale is 1/48, but as always, I scale it down to my familiar 1/100 scale. Remembering that this is my second Cub from DGA, last year I made a civilian version with floats.
The Cub was designed in the late 30s and is considered one of the most efficient light aircraft ever produced, with a large STOL capacity (A Cub lands or takes off smoothly on half a football field), easy to maintain, piloting and repairing, some people compare it to the Ford Model T, as like the car, the Cub popularized the private light aircraft in the aftermath of the war. Between military and civil versions, close to 20,000 Cubs were produced between 1937 and 1947. This particular specimen is a pre-series military Cub, designated YO-59, with the entry of the US into World War II the Cubs were designated L-4 and had a series of improvements that distinguished them from the civil version. The red crosses on the plane are temporary markings from a war game promoted by the US military in September 1941, just before the attack on Pearl Harbor. Reapint by Guido Van Roy. |
